My girlfriend has never owned a computer besides her Surface RT I got her last year and I want to get her one for Christmas. After building my computer my budget is pretty low right now, preferable in the 300-500 dollar range but if I can't get anything good in that price range I can just get her a late Christmas gift.

So I need some laptop recommendations, it needs to have more then 4 hours of battery life, preferable with a CD drive (though not required) and something that won't die on her within the year.

Help!

Don't buy a Toshiba. Mine crapped out in just over a year. My HP Pavilion 15 Notebook works pretty well. Exact model I have no idea, my computer neglected to provide that info.

Off topic but what did you end up putting in that pc?

In the end i spent 808 after borrowing a little from a friend.

GTX 650 Graphics
Cheap MSI motherboard
Intel I5 processor
1 PNY stick 8 GB ram
Cosair power supply (cant remember the exactly one off hand)
100 dollar LG monitor that sucks
22 dollar Azio Keyboard
60 dollar antec case.

Think thats it, I already had a mouse.
I need to put another fan in it and put in new hard drives because the 2 I have are from my old laptop.

I need to upgrade some of these things. In order: Another Fan, Hard drives, Monitor, Keyboard.

Also I'll check out the website, thanks!

I have an ASUS laptop I believe I put $650 into it and it has an i7 processor. It is really nice and can play games pretty well, but your type of budget it is gonna be hard to find a laptop that can handle games well with 60 fps. It looks like you don't really need a gaming dependent one based on your post, so I would recommend an ASUS one.
