So more and more it seems I'll be having to move for my job, and probably to a small town with less then 100,000 people. I'll be a corrections deputy in the near future and was wonder if anyone else had to move, or specifically leave a big city for a small town? Any advice? It's going to be a big life change and I'm asking around if anyone else has been in my situation, thanks.

A lot of the advice I'm getting is "don't" but it's hard to pass up 50K starting with full benefits.

I move this summer for a job. Its a personal decision. As long as I'm a day's drive from "home" it doesn't bother me. But it's always a personal thing on how you feel about moving away. Just be prepared to not come back. If you can't find a job there now, it'll still be hard in 5 years.

For what it's worth, my parents don't like the move. But it's your career.

I'm also moving this summer for an internship in a city 3+ hours away from my parent's home. I currently live about an hour away.

I don't know what to say or how to help because I'm going through the same thing, though my gig is only for four months and then I'll be back in Dearborn.

From a city with a million not really. And that's the town I hope to get, some of the others only have 1, 5, and 15 thousand.

I moved from Kansas City (~2.6 million in the metro area) to Lawrence (~100,000) but, if it wasn't a college town it would feel pretty small for sure. I think it's as low as I would want to transition from.

*cough*

At the 2011 census, my town and the surrounding 15 mile radius area had a population of 566. Beat that! :P

i did this last year. it's... eh. i appreciate being able to work in an english environment, but leaving behind friends and family sucks. i'm moving back later in the spring (when i'll probably have time for fc again!) but then, i was never good at knowing where to go to meet like-minded people, so i haven't really had any friends to hang with for a year or so.

Dude, you're from Australia. Everyone knows people in Australia all live in small settlements in deserts.

I also don't see 100,000 as a small number. I live in a town that I recently found out has 11,000 people in it. I thought 11,000 was a lot when I heard it, but apparently not. What I'd like to know is why you'd have a problem with a smaller town. Easier driving. If you accidentally drive onto the sidewalk, you'll only take out 2 people instead of 20.

I've actually never thought about living in a bigger city. That might be interesting.
