Three guests check into a hotel room. The clerk says the bill is $30, so each guest pays $10. Later the clerk realizes the bill should only be $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 to return to the guests. On the way to the room, the bellhop realizes that he cannot divide the money equally. As the guests didn't know the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 and keep $2 for himself.

Now that each of the guests has been given $1 back, each has paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The bellhop has $2. If the guests originally handed over $30, what happened to the remaining $1?

It's called our Math system is severally flawed. Once you reach Calculus you find ways to bend our Math system all around to points where it doesn't make sense.

The clerk has $25, the guests have $3, and the bellhop has $2.

25 + 3 + 2 = 30

There's a bunch of irrelevant info in there meant to mislead you. When they say that only $27 have been paid, the bellhop's $2 is included.

The $2 the bellhop has is irrelevant. It is the difference between $25 and $27. They were supposed to get the full $5 back but instead only got $3. The $2 is not what they saved (i.e., isn't taken from the $30) but instead what they never received (was taken from the $25).

It's confusing trying to explain... Basically, it's a trick question with misinformation.

EDIT: BurningScarekro beat me to it, and I like his explanation more than my own. lol

I did all of the math in my head just to scroll down and see that you already did it....

This isn't paradox, by the way.

A male barber shaves all and only those men who do not shave themselves. Does he shave himself?

This is....

Eri where is the "like" button on that? Seriously.

My favourite paradoxes of all time...

What happens if Pinocchio says "My nose will now grow?"

If everything is possible, then isn't it possible for something to be impossible?

If we are all unique, are we really all unique?

Skynet isn't a robot though, it's a super computer...

Skynet isn't one supercomputer. It's a global defense force turned rampant. It's software, hardware, anything that has the Skynet code running through it.

But for arguments' sake, who the fuck cares. Mythonian isn't human.

really isn't a paradox tough.... its not 2 contradicting statments where if one is true the other if false but if one is false the other should be false.
unstoppable force vs unmoveable object.

my personal favorite:
if god is all powerful he should be able to make a boulder that even he can't move, but if he can make a boulder even he can't move is he still all powerful?
