No, 42 is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

That does not mean that it is the answer to every question, only the Ultimate Question. Other questions aren't necessarily 42.

The books are much better... Much, much better. In fact, the movie was terrible in comparison.

Okay kids. The travelers go on an epic quest to find the answer to the Ultimate Question, which is, "What is the meaning of life". They find the one entity that can answer the question for them. It is a very epic and monumentous scene. The entity thinks long and hard, everyone is on the edge of their seats. It finally responds with

"42."

Everyone goes "wut" but regardless, accepts the answer.

Mythonian divided 1337 (please dear god don't tell me to explain that number. If you do, you're trolling and I, nor should anyone else, answer that. If you really don't know, please delete your account and never open your computer again) by the numerical value of Pi (or close to it, it's rounded off), both epic and important numbers in themselves, and found the number he got back was 42, the number mentioned in the lore above.

It is an awesome set of coincidences that this happened, and a very enlightening nerd moment for those that actually understand it.

I think you may need to re-read the books, Eri... Deep Thought was built by the mice, which discovered the Answer. The humans were part of the discovery of the question. (They were told the Answer when Arthur was going to have his brain removed)

The most accurate question that you can get is "What do you get if you multiply six by nine?" However, the fact that it actually equals 54 shows that something is fundamentally wrong with the universe.

However, that is still not the Ultimate Question. The calculations from the super computer designed to figure out the question (the Earth) unfortunately was partially corrupted by the arrival of another race on the planet, which replaced the original natives (the organic life was part of the computer).

We will, unfortunately, never know the true Question.
