Hybrid Orbit, USS America
Coalition of Federal Militaries (COFM)

All of the senate of the COFM were currently present in one room over two hundred senators and each and everyone were appointed by each of the 200 and growing human colonies. One of the senators was the Supreme ruler over everyone and that was the highest ranking military officer in all of the COFM. Supreme Commander Hawkins at the young age of thirty-five he has brought the entire COFM into full organization. He had even begun forming strong alliances with the outer colonies that were more prone to political corruption. The discussion at hand today was the formation of a new group of outer colony of political and military leaders.

“As you all know why we are here, to discuss that new formation of the alliances between the outer colonies that are going against everything that we have established. They are currently just an Insurgent group that has been ambushing all of our political ambassadors and their small group of ships. This needs to be extinguished before it becomes a bigger problem, but with out us knowing who the leaders are we can’t stomp the fire out. So I have called you all here to give an executive order, to use all of your resources to undermine and discover the identities of ghosts who lead this Insurgency.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said.

A senator spoke up, “We need to just send in a fleet to the outer colonies and regulate everything. It worked fine in the inner and middle colonies.”

“Yes, but we had support. The outer colonies hold almost no support towards us. So we need to show them that we are here for their good.” Supreme Command Hawkins said.

“What about giving them, their own government systems? Then just keeping a peaceful medium between them and us?” Another senator asked.

“Thats what the ambassadors were for, and they were all killed or taken hostage. So they don’t want peace that want to rule our galaxy. The worse thing that could happen is them winning the support of the Brotherhood. They may be deemed as just a human-rights political group, but I can see them becoming corrupt and then forming up a militia large to do something. Win the hearts of the people, and we can easily destroy this Insurgency.” As Supreme Commander Hawkins spoke in another Solar System over, “This is Romeo Six Two, we are detecting over twenty unknown heat signatures on radar. Please confirm.”

“Copy that, we see twenty unknown cruisers. Hold we will try and make contact.” Captain Dubkova said with his harsh Russian accent.

“This, is Captain Dubkova of the USS Nightfire. Respond to this message or we will fire on you!” Captain Dubkova said looking at the fleet of ships his was staring at from his bridge. He had never seen ships with the Insignia they had on them. “Charge the Gauss Cannons, and send the crew into red alert. I don’t like the look of this.” He said as he lit a cigar and sucked the smoke from it. With one breath out he sat down in his chair. His entire bridge crew was at work furiously typing in commands while staring into their consoles.

“Sir, they sent the message back to us.” An Ensign said looking up at her Captain.

“Prepare to fire on my mark, these bastards aren’t here for peace.” Captain Dubkova said and brought up his own console and typed in codes. The cruisers that were pointing at them, weren’t on any COFM navy dossiers.

“Sir, the rest of the fleet is ready and awaiting orders. Gauss Cannons are fully charged. Just say the word.” Another Ensign said.

“On my mark, one......two......three.. ....mark.” The words left his lips and the Gauss Cannons released their rounds and streamed through space. They watched at they nailed their targets. The ships took the damage, and now it was time to retaliate. The deemed hostile fleet of ships in front of Captain Dubkova’s fleet returned fire. They took the hits and now the real battle began. Captain Dubkova always pictured the beginning of a naval battle as one of the battles between infantry in the beginning era of the handheld gun. The soldiers would line up and then take turns firing. The idea was pretty stupid it just meant more men dead. The ships would line up and fire a salvo of rounds each before maneuvering and try to flank. Captain Dubkova’s fleet knew how to handle such a threat easily. Four ships flanked left while six flanked right and the rest pushed the middle.

“Charge up for another salvo, and aim for their guns. As for my ship charge our Rail Gun. We aren’t gonna play around anymore.” Captain Dubkova said. A Rail Gun was one of the most powerful weapons in the hands of the COFM. It could rip an A-Class Battle Cruiser right in half.

“Copy that Rail Gun is charging currently at 40%.” An Ensign said.

“Sir, this is Nova Squadron. We are ready to engage the enemy.” The voice of a young pilot said.

“Nova you are cleared for take off, hit em hard comrades.” Captain Dubkova said. He typed in a few more codes and began logging the fleet infront of him.

“Sir, Rail Gun is fully charged whats your target?” The Ensign who reported to him about the Rail Gun before said.

Captain Dubkova stared at the fleet for a few minutes, “Paint the center cruiser. Aim directly at the nose of the ship.”

“Copy that firing in 3.....2.....1.....mark.” The USS Nightmare had a slight power fluctuation as the massive round from the Rail Gun was fired. The round connected with the nose of the cruiser and it cut a clean hole through it. Gauss rounds smashed into the cruisers around the center one and they watched as explosions covered the hull of ship. Another salvo of Gauss rounds came from the enemy fleet and they drilled into the thick hulls of Captain Dubkova’s ships.

“I want a damage report now!” Captain Dubkova barked as his own ship shook.

“Sir, we have taken minimal damage, but the Battle Ship “Andes” was hit in the bridge and all coms with the “Andes” are down. All all ships have taken minimal damage too. What are your order sir?”

“I want all ships to concentrate fire on the remaining center three ships.” He said as he watched Nova Squadron engage on of the cruisers. They laid out bombing run after bombing run on the hull of the ship. It wasn’t long before the entire enemy fleet had their flak guns out, and we gunning to shoot down Nova Squadron.

“This is Nova things are getting hot for us, if you could target some of those flak guns we will be able to hit the rest.” Nova’s Squadron leader said.

“Copy that Nova, aim at those flak guns we need Nova to bomb those cruisers.” Captain Dubkova said and then stood up and sucked again on his cigar that he had almost forgot was burning in his mouth. He let out the plume of smoke and stared at the chaos unfolding infront of him.

“This is the Stealth Cruiser Texas. We are receiving huge amounts of com chatter from the enemy fleet. It’s on an encrypted channel, though we are attempting to hack it. If it is successful we will patch it through to you.” Lieutenant Commander Belkin said.

“Copy that Belkin, patch it through.” Captain Dubkova said and pulled up another dossier of known rebel fleets. This one was by far the most powerful he had ever seen. He liked the challenge though.

“His entire screen turned to strange strands of code. He watched as slowly they became uncoded fleet orders. Then came the real interesting stuff. Dubkova found out who the Commanding Officer of the fleet was. Captain Theodore Rukin, who just happened to be an officer under Dubkova when he disappeared on a mission to the outer colonies.

As Dubkova read from the battle infront of him he saw a blinding light.

“Who the hell just fired another rail gun round?!” Dubkova demanded.

“Sir, that wasn’t us.” An Ensign said looking back with fear in his eyes.

“Sir, Battle Cruiser “Reaper” has just been destroyed.” A different Ensign said.

“All ships focus on the Cruiser that has that Rail Gun.” As Dubkova said this two more Rail Gun rounds hit ships.

“Sir, Cruisers “Nightwish” and “Ghost” have been destroyed. Awaiting orders.”

“I want a Rail Gun round in one of those enemy Cruisers now!” Dubkova said as his cigar dropped from mouth and he smashed his fist into the screen infront of him. He stood up enraged. No one had ever beaten his fleet.

“Rail Gun is charged, sir.”

“Fire!” Captain Dubkova barked and watched as another enemy Cruiser had a hole cut through it like butter. “Focus all Gauss Cannons on the second and third enemy Cruisers with Rail Guns.” A salvo of Gauss rounds streaked across space and smashed into the two cruisers. They returned fire, and the USS Nightfire took some massive blows as the rounds hit in previous impact points.

“Sir, we have multiple hull breaches. We are evacing those sectors and then looking them down.”

As this happened a message had been received. Dubkova opened it.

“Ahhh it is so good to see you again old friend, only this time I’m the one in control. I have to say you do still have your touch or tactical genius. What you do lack however is the guns in this fight. Everyone of my ships are equipped with a Rail Gun. So I have to say good-bye old friend. Your defeat will mark the beginning of a new rule within this galaxy.” Rukin said.

“Lieutenant Commander Belkin I am ordering you to retreat right now. Cloak and turn your engines off. That is an immediate order!” Captain Dubkova barked as he lit up another cigar. “What Cruiser did that message originate from?”

“Sir, the message originated from the left center cruiser. The Rail Gun is charging, sir.” Another Ensign said with remorse in his voice.

“Comrades this is Captian Dubkova it has been an honor serving with you.” He said releasing a plume of smoke and then opening up another message.

“Sir, Rail Gun is 75% charged and we are reading massive energy spikes from their Cruisers.”

“I want that Rail Gun round to go right through that Cruiser’s bridge. That bastard won’t escape again.”

Dubkova opened a message that he would send back to Rukin.

“I’ll see you in hell you back stabbing bastard.” He said and let out a smirk before sending it.

“Sir, Rail Gun is at 100%.”

“Kill him.” Were the last two words everyone heard on the USS Nightfire’s bridge. The USS Nightfire’s Rail Gun went off as Dubkova’s fleet was obliterated by Rail Gun rounds. The Rail Gun round from the USS Nightfire however went off and punched a clean hole right through it’s target.

“This is Lieutenant Command Belkin, this is an emergency transmission to go directly to the Senate. Captain Dubkova’s fleet has been destroyed by, an unknown Human military force. I will be arriving within the Solar System within a few days to go over things with COFM leaders. All I can really say is that we are at war now.” Lieutenant Commander Belkin said as he stared at the recording of his fleet being ripped to shreds. He knew as well as anyone else that there were still soldiers stuck in those cruisers, but he couldn’t do a thing for them. He also knew that a new war was at hand and it needed to be stopped before it could escalate.

Mars Arch-Angel Barracks
Arch-Angel Battalion

Lt. Shark, Sgt. Mers, Cpl. Serge, and Pvt. Leon all stood at the end of their bunks and at attention Maj. Winslow walked up and down each aisle inspecting his battalion's barracks. Arch-Angel Battalion consisted of five squads. Nightmare, Reaper, Fear, Ghost and Hellfire. Arch-Angel was an underground military branch. The media and even the certain military Generals didn't know Arch-Angel existed. As Maj. Winslow finished his inspection he snapped, "Nightmare front and center!"

Nightmare listened like an instinct and formed a straight line in front of Maj. Winslow. Each soldier being exactly 18 years old and each built differently. Lt. Shark was the squads medic and rifleman unit. Sgt. Mers was the squads sniper and recon specialist. Cpl. Serge was the squads support unit. Pvt. Leon was the squads CQC and demo specialist. Nightmare was the best in Arch-Angel. They were all trained exactly the same as the rest of Arch-Angel, but they have beaten all other squads in any training exercise. They worked to earn the title of the best. Nightmare was a brotherhood, no one would be left behind and nothing would break their will when they fight together. Arch-Angel as a group was a family, Maj. Winslow being the father. HighCom wanted to enhance Arch-Angel with steroids and other enhancing drugs, Winslow declined and said he would train them to be even better then soldiers who had drug enhancements. He did.

"I have received orders from HighCom. Stealth detecting satellites have picked up Insurgent stealth ships have been landing in the Asteroid belt. Upon further scans they have discovered an Insurgent base buried in an Asteroid with it's outer shell being think lead deposits. They want us to go in and crush the entire base from within. Nightmare your going to be the spearhead of the assault. I have requested to Navy to give up two tactical nuclear det charges. Nightmare you will be clearing and path for Ghost and Fear. They will be transporting the the 2 charges. As for Reaper and Hellfire you guys will go in nice and silently and tap into the Insurgents data-pool and launch a virus that will allow us to tap into anything they have in their network." Winslow handed each squad leader a tiny chip. The chips held the same virus. "Four A-Class Dreadnought Assault Cruisers will be your support, HighCom fears that the Insurgent fleet will arrive to support this station." Maj. Winslow said looking down each aisle of his soldiers. "Is that clear!"

"Yes, father!" Rang in the barracks.

"Good," Maj. Winslow turned around smiling. It always got to him when his soldiers called him father or dad. He had never felt like their father, because he had taken them away from their families and each had known that from the start of their training. They cried, but they go through it. They soon learned the reasoning behind them being taken from their happy lives and that was to keep their families safe from harm. Now here they stand receiving their first mission.

Hybrid, Unknown Sector of Space
1st Recon Platoon
Echo Company
Fire-Team Kilo

"This is drop ship squadron Oscar, we are nearing LZ. ETA five minutes. Echo Company your going to be touching down first, followed up by Foxtrot. Secure a perimeter and wait for orders. Alpha and Bravo Companies will be coming down with supplies to set up base camp. Remember to keep all gear on, we don't want anyone freezing to death out there." Capt. Michaels said over the Battalion wide com channel.

Hybrid was a heavily wooded planet. Half of the planet was tropical while the other half were winter temperatures and precipitation. Echo Company was currently going straight into a blizzard, command wanted RecMarines on the ground as quickly as possible. Each soldier was equipped with a suit that kept all body heat in. If the temperatures outside the suit got to cold then a thermal generator would kick in and supply even more heat to the soldier. Each of them had an Mk6 standard issue assault rifle along with the standard issue C-98 eight cylinder magnum.

The drop ship's thrusters changed and the cabin lurched because of it. The men inside stayed a foot as it slowly went down to land in the dense snowy surface. The back hatch dropped open and out they went.

"Stay in a five meter spread, and thermal visors up. Were heading to checkpoint Kilo, once their we will hold up until reassigned orders." Sgt. Arson said taking point and moving forward his weapon sweeping from left to right and up and down. Fire-Team Kilo soon left the open field they landed in and entered the pine woods. The snow died down because of the trees, but it was still nearly impossible to see without the thermal visor settings.

"This is Lt. Davis, are all Echo Company Fire-Teams on ground and inbound to checkpoints?" Sgt. Arson looked down to the device on his right wrist and typed in F-T Kilo inbound to CkPt Kilo.

"Copy that good luck Echo." Lt. Davis said.

Arson was quick to pick up point again and lead his men onwards. He stopped at a tree and balled up his fist and from the fist brought his hand flat and lowered it to his waist. Everyone reacted and went prone. Soon Kilo saw what had made their leader decide for them to get down. A massive creature was walking forward infront of them, and he didn't want to engage any wildlife right now. Number One rule of RecMarines, never waste ammo on a non-hostile target.

Once the creature past Kilo was back up again moving through the trees and each soldier watched as their Nav Markers got lower and lower in distance count until they were five meters from the Checkpoint Kilo. They pressed onwards and once the counter reached zero they all stopped and looked at Arson.

"Set up in a circle, use the trees as cover. If you see any wildlife report it and which direction it is heading." Sgt. Arson said point to four different trees. Kilo got into position, they had eyes on all directions.

Pfc. Louis on the east flank saw a almost human looking being move into his line of view between two trees. The being stopped and Louis watched as its head turned from being faced away from Louis to directly looking at him. Louis turned his thermal visor off and saw only the white wall of snow infront of him. He switched his visor back and the creature was gone.

"Umm I just saw a creature that looked human stop turn its head completely around and look at me." Louis reported in.

"Don't worry about it, most wildlife is harmless on this planet, especially in this weather." Sgt. Arson replied.

"Alright Echo. We are launching the thermal scanner nodes down to all Checkpoints. Be prepared to set them up."Capt. Michaels said.

"Get clear!" Sgt. Arson said and jumped behind a snow drift. The rest of Kilo just pressed themselves against trees. The node dropped and was driven into the icy flat that was under the fresh layer of snow. Once the node was down Pvt. O'Neal was on the job to activate it. He first unlocked the for cover shell for the programing area. Once he did he began typing in codes and flipping switches. Soon the scanner began to turn on and emit a huge heat source that melted the ice it was in, along with the snow. Finally once it was completely operational Kilo was able to fall back to Rally Point Zulu.

"This is Gamma team we have been seeing a lot of wildlife, they seem to be getting close and closer each time." Gamma's squad leader said. "Oh shit….. We got enemy contacts! We need hel…………" The com was cut short.

"Kilo on your way back head over to Gamma's last known location. They have even been taken off our life support readings." Lt. Davis said.

"Roger that." Sgt. Arson said and with his right index finger he twirled it up in the air meaning they have to form up. Kilo formed up infront of the node. "Gamma has gone missing, and they want us to investigate their last known location. Keep your weapons up and be ready for anything, now we know we have hostiles on this rock." Arson reported to his men and then took point and Kilo began to move.

Their movement was hampered by the storm and the foliage of the wooded area they were in. It took them a good 45 minute hike to get to Gamma's last known location and when they did they found that nothing was left to even signify that a human presence was even their except for the node that was lodged into the ground.

“This Arson we don’t see any sign of Gamma. No blood nothing all thats here is the node, confirm.” Sgt. Arson said.

“Confirmed we have nothing on their vitals. Were going to be sending recon drones out to try and detect any low thermal readings. Just make sure the node is up and running and return back to camp. We have supplies and are setting up now.” Lt. Davis said.

“Were heading back they’re going to send out drones to try and find Gamma. Lets get moving!” Sgt. Arson barked into the squad com and Kilo was on the move again.

Atleast Gamma had gotten the node online before disappearing, but its weird, no blood no shells. Nothing whatever got them came in quickly or silently. He pushed the thoughts out of his mind as they trudged through the thick foliage and dense constant snowfall. It took them a 60 minute hike to get back to base camp. They found that heavy steel plated walls had already set up. They entered through one of the gate. Inside everything was more visible, because the high winds weren’t adding to the blinding white snow. Which still feel very steadily. ATV’s were rigged as snow blowers and blew the snow against the walls. This would allow the walls to become more of a solid barrier.

Kilo walked into the main combat tent. Heaters lined the inside of the room and blew the cold air out. Arson slid his helmet off his head and held it at his side, Kilo followed as they stood before Capt. Michaels and Lt. Davis. Echo as one snapped a salut which Capt. Michaels returned and then turned to put his hands on the holo-map infront of him. He pointed to Gamma’s last location.

“We picked up one last bit of information on Gamma. In their last report in we detected a faint screeching noise, which we think was dampened by the snow. That leads us to believe that the thing or things that attacked Gamma were a native species.” Capt. Michaels said.

“Sir, with all due respect I don’t think Gamma would classify a native species a hostile contact. They had to experience some form of weapon fire.” Pvt. O’Neal said.

“Yes, Private but no weapon fire was heard.”

“Sir, I agree with O’Neal when we posted up and waited for our node to come down I spotted a creature looking directly at me through the snowfall. When I turned my visor to normal all I could see was white. I think something is on this planet. We just haven’t come face to face with it yet.” Pfc. Louis said. Just as Louis said this two soldier came into the tent.

“Sir, Lt. Col. Jefferson has givin us a total field report. All 1st Recon Marines Base’s have been set up and all thermal scanning nodes have been set up and we have a full view of this side of the planet. We have picked up huge thermal readings all around. We think they are native species in packs.” One of the soldiers said. Capt. Michaels looked down and scrolled out. The entire globe was up now, huge pockets of thermal readings littered the planet. Marked Marine Base’s were in green. A huge pocket was right next to their base and even closer to Gamma’s node position.

“Patch me into the Lt.Col. right now!” Capt. Michaels barked putting on a headset. It took a few seconds before he heard the Lt.Col.’s voice.

“Michaels what do you need?” Lt.Col. Jefferson asked.

“Those natives if they are natives aren’t friendlies. A group of my boys have gone missing and another has reported strange activity from creatures. We need to to put all base’s on Code Blue.” Capt. Michaels said looking up and at each of the soldiers in Echo.

“We can’t do that we don’t have a solid report on these creatures being hostiles. As off now it’s a no go, I’m sorry Michaels.” Just as Jefferson finished.

“Sir, we have a problem. We have picked up multiple contacts they appeared out of nowhere. The thermal mass has also moved too. Sir, I what are your.....” Boom! An explosion shook the tent knocking some of the heaters over. Kilo without thinking slammed their helmets back on their heads and checked the magazines in their assault rifles. Another explosion shook the tent. This time the power went off.

“This is Capt. Michaels. Echo base is under attack. Repeat we are under attack. Send reinforcements ground-side ASAP!” Capt. Michaels barked. Gunfire flared outside and Kilo was quick to head outside of the tent. The snowfall had died down to a bare minimum. Everything was clear, marines lined the walls and fired. They saw what was causing the explosions huge red balls we appearing from over the walls and crashing inside of the walls. Marine bodies were scattered all around along with tents that were hit and are now burning molten craters of ash.

“This is drop ship squadron Yankee we are inbound to Echo Base for immediate evac.” A pilot said over the entire company wide com channel.

“This is Capt. Michaels I copy Echo will be at your LZ.” Capt. Michaels said.

“We aren’t able to pick up at the base as of now, those red mortars have already shot down other drop ships. So we need you to clear them out if possible or move to a new location.” The pilot said.
“Damn it. Copy that.” Michaels cut the com. “Kilo the rest of us can hold up here. I need you to try and take down what ever the hell it takes to stop those mortars from firing!”

“On it, sir!” Sgt. Arson said. “Saddle it up boys we have to go kick some ass. We need to find some explosives.”

“On it.” O’Neal said as he began searching for explosives. As they stood around another mortar nailed the base and sent marines flying. O’Neal shoved over a huge crate and under it was a TacNuke launcher. It had two charges in it.

“I got a TacNuke launcher, two charges left in it though.” O’Neal reported back as he slung it over his back and looked around for more charges for it. He pulled out his pistol and shot the latch locks off of the crate he had just shoved over. Another mortar came flying in a hit the commend tent. Kilo, Lt. Davis, and Capt. Michaels all were taken off their feet from the shockwave. O’Neal gripped the crate as the shockwave got to him and he recovered lifting the crate’s lid and checking inside to find exactly what he was looking for. A belt of TacNuke charges he snatched them up and clipped it around his waist.

“Let’s roll,” O’Neal said as he got back to his squad who were just getting up from the shockwave. Kilo reacted quickly and jumped up ready for combat. Rifles were checked over and they headed towards the gates of the base. Which were opened just enough for Kilo to squeeze out. What they saw before them was unlike anything they have seen before. Hordes of creatures were holding weird rifles that fired what looked to be energy bolts. Kilo quickly open fired on the group of the creatures right infront of them. Their bullets cut the creatures down in a spray of green blood. A hole was in the creatures offensive line now and Kilo took their entrance fast. They sprint towards the tree line and as they got back inside the forest quickly reloaded and swept their rifles across their view, a few creatures were coming at them and Kilo opened up once again. They moved forward and stopped to examine their new found enemies. The creatures had armor plates on it’s chest and bent thighs. The creature had a very wide chest cavity and thin mid-section. It’s head had what looked like a headset and visor on it. The face was ugly with small red eyes and huge fangs and a horrible over-bite.

“Damn these things are ugly.” Sgt. Arson said kicking it in the side to make sure it was dead. They had enough cover now to move without engaging any of the creatures directly. The trees were like walls all around them and the snowfall had picked up again to give a faint white hue in the air. Their armor plates were frosted with it so they had a near perfect camouflage.

“Alright on me.” Arson said and Kilo got in a circle around their on one knee. “

“With or ships in space they have pinpointed the mortars they seem to have three zones that are launching those mortars we should be able to cut em quickly with the cover of these trees. The thermal scanners are showing that the thermal mass that was their before isn’t as big as it was. So we are thinning them out, but the rate at which we are losing marines is very fast. We need to do this quickly so we can pull out. No mistakes.” Sgt. Arson said as he reloaded his rifle and looked around to make sure the area was clear to move. Once he thought so they took off heading towards their first target, moving quickly over fallen trees and under low hanging branches with the light snow fall once again blanketing everything. It wasn’t long before they got to a cliff that looked over the thing causing the mortars. It was a huge snub nosed artillery battery. It had a massive barrel and they watched as it fired a mortar off. It had three receptors that soaked up the massive energy it released. Red lightening was soaked up by the receptors after the mortar was launched.

“Kill it.” Arson said after examining the battery.

“Gladly.” O’Neal said raising the launcher, taking aim and firing a charge. Kilo watched as it shot out of the tube and fell directly into the barrel of the battery a few seconds later they were behind trees and the battery was blown to nothing as a small mushroom could formed and the shockwave was buffered by the cliff they were on. They got out of cover and checked to make sure that the target had been destroyed and all they saw was a crater and some scrap metal.

“One down two to go,” Pfc. Louis said. Kilo had to go to the east now to get to the other target. They changed directions and kept on moving. As they were moving they broke into a clearing and in the clearing was what looking like an entire army of the creatures. Kilo dove into the snow as quickly as they could.

“Shit. We won’t be able to get around this in time to save Echo Base.” Sgt. Arson said. As he looked around, the creatures had what looked like a tank along with a massive infantry regiment. The army could easily crush the base that had only a couple hundred marines left.

“O’Neal how many charges do you have?” Arson asked looking back at him.

“About 5 more, sir.” O’Neal replied looking back up towards Arson who looked back at the army.

“Good, I want you to launch 2 of them at this army. We can’t let them get to the base.” Arson said.

“But how will we get across a radiation zone? We won’t survive, and we don’t have enough time to detour around it. Sir, were going to have to go through it....” Pfc. Louis said.

“He is right, we don’t have the time to engage it looks like this army is going to move anytime soon anyways.” O’Neal said looking up and scanning the army. They had structures set up and the creature roamed around in squads. As a pure moment of luck the snow started picking up again. Soon enough it was a white out again and Kilo switched to thermal vision. O’Neal took this time to slide two more rounds into his pistol closed the cylinder and holstered it.

“Alright we have somewhat of an advantage now. Let’s get moving, but stay on my ass. I don’t want to compromise this.” Arson said standing up and leveling his rifle forward. He could see the entire base, it was a huge stain of red, orange, yellow, and sometimes green on his visor. Anything else was blue. Kilo sprinted forward and stacked up on the wall of one of the structures making sure the area was clear they headed into an alleyway between two structures. They swept their rifles left and right and as they got to the end stacked up again, Arson peered around the corner and shot back behind as a squad went past them. Arson peered out again and then looked back at the squad the area was clear. Just as they did another squad turned the corner and Kilo was only half of the way to the next structure. The squad open fired and a bolt of energy caught Louis in the leg. He dove into the next alley way that the rest of Kilo got into.

“Fuck! I’m hit.” He said grabbing his leg. Which seared in pain. When he looked down he saw that his boot and pants had melted to his skin which was burnt to a crisp. The only thing stopping him from feeling the pain was the sub-zero temperature. He reached into a belt compartment and pulled out combat wrap. As he did this Arson and O’Neal crouched down and waited for the creatures to round the corner. When they did they opened up with a quick salvo and sweeping from left to right. The creatures were cut down, but now the entire army knew that they were there. A siren went off, and Kilo was quick to begin sprinting, but Louis was left limping behind. As they broke out of the army’s camp and into the clearing before the tree line. Energy bolts began coming towards them. Arson took one to the back and Louis got hit in the arm as he fell another one to the back. O’Neal looked back at his now dead brothers and turned to unload his clip but was hit in the shoulder with a bolt. He hit the ground and went for his magnum. The creatures were running towards him. He aimed and fired, he watched as the huge round connected with one of the creatures and it’s chest cavity was ripped in half. The others didn’t hesitate to return fire. O’Neal took hundreds of the energy bolts at one time.

“Capt. Kilo teams vitals just went dark.” Lt. Davis said.

Capt. Michaels looked down, “This is Capt. Michaels Echo Company CO, we cannot destroy the rest of the mortar batteries. Requesting emergency extraction. We are running a code Purple. We are about to be over-run. Over.”

“Capt. Michaels this is Drop Ship Squadron Yankee we are on an extraction mission currently, we need to refuel and can come back down to get you, ETA thirty minutes. Over.”

“Damn..... Copy that Yankee.” Capt. Michaels said. He looked down at the ground and then looked up just to see a mortar hit the north wall and put a hole in it. Marines flew off of the wall and hit the ground hard. Another one hit the wall and this time the wall crashed down. Michaels watched as marines scrambled for cover, and those who couldn’t get to it in time were gunned down. He watched his marines die right before his eyes.

“Sir! We have to get to cover!” Lt. Davis said, but Michaels was in shock at the scene before him. Never has his marines lost a fight like this. A mortar land almost directly next to him and he was shot to the left. He landed with a thud as his head smacked the ground and everything went dark.

“Sir!........Sir! Come on get up, sir.” Lt. Davis said shaking Capt. Michaels. Michaels came to and was looking around everything was blurry and dazed he had a crack in his visor and readings were messed up. His life support readings were red and he could taste blood in his mouth. He looked up at Davis and watched as he took a burst of energy bolts to the chest and was knocked backwards. His eyes followed the man and were brought back up as a creature loomed over him, he couldn’t make out what it looked like. The creature put it’s weapon to Michael’s visor and fired.

A-Class Dreadnought "Super Nova"
Nightmare Squad, Arch-Angel Battalion

Nightmare was in a circle down on one knee in full gear, save their helmets. Lt. Shark was the only one standing. Everyone was conversing, except Shark.

"Listen up boys, Dad isn't going to be on the horn for this one. This time it's us, and the guys feeding us the information we need. This time it's just us, and this time its real. Dad has trained us, he has given us all he can to make us the best and we are the best. We will do our job and let our brothers do theirs. So let's get out there and kick some Insurgent ass!" Lt. Shark growled. Nightmare all stood up and slid their helmets on. Weapons clicked as magazines were slid into their receivers. Sgt. Mers clicked open a case and pulled out a longer barrel attachment for his Mk6 unscrewing the one on his standard Mk6 assault rifle. He screwed the barrel on and then pulled a pin from the stock so the rifle broke in half at a hinge. He pulled the charging handle out and replaced it with the new charging handle in its place. Finally he added a clip filled with hollow point rounds. He slid the bolt into place and jumped onto the Falcon drop ship. As the back hatch closed he locked a visor scope on his rifle. The visor scope linked to his visor so he could sight in from where ever the weapon is pointed.

"The Dreadnoughts are going to blow holes into the asteroid and were going to land inside the station. Once inside you will clear a path for Ghost and Fear. Good luck Nightmare. Show these bastards how we do things." Maj. Winslow said. Nightmare froze from the voice and after hearing their fathers voice encouraging them to kill the Insurgents fires were lit in their souls. Each man stood on heels now as the awaited to be dropped off inside the station.

"Hold on to something." The pilot said as Sgt. Mers typed a code in to open the back hatch of the drop ship. The cabin pressurized and the back hatch opened up. Nightmare watched at two AMC rounds were blasted for Dreadnought Sparta's main cannon. They each grabbed onto a strap and the entire Falcon shook as the rounds zipped past the drop ship. A loud bang rang and they all grabbed their rifles.

"ETA one minute, prepare for a quick drop." Their pilot said. They saw asteroids surround them, twisted metal and bodies along with equipment and things that were in the station before it was hit. Their view changed from space being inside of the station. Bulkhead doors were sealing off all of the sections of the station that were ripped apart. It wasn't a long trip to get to the inside of the station. They jumped out into station stacked up on the nearest bulkhead door.

"Serge get the door." Shark said. Cpl. Serge grabbed an explosive charge from his gear and planted it on the door. He got into formation and blew it. The door was launched into the room and they quickly moved into the corridor before the emergency doors closed. Nightmare scanned the dark corridor.

"Go thermal." The command was quick and everyone followed. Visors switched from normal to thermal. Everything was cold on the station. The wall panels were cold, meaning the blast had shut down the power for this section of the station.

"Keep your eyes open for a working terminal. We need to get the blue prints for this station. Move out." Shark said and took point down the corridor. Everything was silent. They kept nice and snug against the wall, rifles were level and they scanned and listen to every sound that the station made. Soon enough lights appeared ahead from the intersecting corridor.

"I got this," Pvt. Leon said hand his rifle over to Serge. He crept forward and then heading into a sprint. His perfect timing surprised one of the soldiers as the squad pasted the corridor Nightmare was down. Two soldier looked over and scanned. Leon was quick and tackled one of them full power and speed. As he tackled the man, Leon drew his combat knife and drove it into the man's chest cavity.

"What the hell!" The other soldier barked and lifted his rifle. Leon jumped up, pushing the rifle upwards as the hail of bullets sprayed out and harmlessly connected to the ceiling. Leon kicked the soldier in the ribs and then smashed the butt of the rifle into the man's face. He crashed backwards into the wall and slumped. Blood was oozing from his mouth, nose, and the gash the butt of the rifle had made. Leon knew his kick also shattered the man's right ribs. If he wasn't dead he would be soon. The third and four member of the squad were staring down their rifle sights at Leon. He froze realizing he was beat. He closed his eyes and when the hail of bullets didn't come he looked up to see Sgt. Mers twirling his knife between his fingers and two dead bodies at his feet.

"Thanks," Leon said smirking. The rest of Nightmare appeared and they continued down the corridors. They wiped a total of five Insurgent fire-teams before getting to another sealed bulkhead door.

"Blow it, we need to hurry up the station should be fully combat ready soon." Lt. Shark said and got pressed against the wall next to the door his rifle pointing down. Cpl. Serge planted another det charge and stepped back blowing through the thick steal doors. Nightmare went in and another fire-team was waiting. As the Insurgents covered their faces from the blast Nightmare took their chance to put two rounds in each soldier. Once the smoke cleared four men were on the ground and Nightmare was already in the next corridor. Emergency lights were on, so the Shark figured the back up power was on for this section of the station.

"A terminal should be online some where." Shark said pointing down a corridor. The squad moved down and as they turned another corner a terminal was right their. Shark was quick to hack the system, and find the blue prints for the station. He located the Executive commands and locked down every door except for all of the bulkhead doors they took to get where they are.

"This is Shark, Ghost and Fear you are clear for insertion. I set the directed path to get to our current position. I've locked down all the doors so nothing can ambush you." Lt. Shark said.

"We copy that, were inbound to the station. We should be to you guys in twenty minutes." Lt. Young replied back. Shark also looked deeper into the data files he had access to. He opened a file.

I will log this transmission and send it on an encrypted channel.

We sent a drop ship planet side. The second the drop ship landed the creatures on the planet attacked the Marines inside.

Earlier today reports have come from around the globe of lights during the night. Pulsating lights that illuminate the night sky.

We are here now, to tell you that we are under siege. Satellites have discovered a large fleet that surrounds us…. God help us all.

Nothing was received via an encrypted channel after the last update.

Shark once again put the file in his data reservoir and moved from the terminal.

"Shark we got company,'' Sgt. Mers said looking down the next corridor. Fire-teams were sprinting towards Nightmare. All of Nightmare crouched and leveled their rifles. The second the fire-teams turned the corners bullets soaked them. Blood covered the wall behind them as rounds ripped through their flesh. Each member reloaded.

"Hold here until Ghost and Fear arrive," Shark said looking to the right of him and saw the word Armory on the floor pointing into a room. "Stock up on weapons and ammo." He said opening the door. Everyone went into the Armory. Racks of weapons covered the walls. Leon locked his assault rifle on his back and grabbed a C-10 Shotgun. He loaded shells into it and opened a box and grabbed a shell belt putting each individual shell into a slot. Serge grabbed the only K-21s2 Automatic Support Weapon. He also grabbed three belts of ammo for it. Mers grabbed the Nk34 SMG and ammo. Shark found three bullet shields and threw one to Leon and Serge. Each of them strapped them to their left forearms.

Each of them were ready and they were quick to leave and head back to the room with the terminal. Ghost and Fear rounded the corner as they returned back to the room.

"Good to see you guys. We were engaged by a few squads on the way, but the darkness threw them off and made em easy kills." Lt. Kenzel said. Unlike any other time the squads would meet up this time they didn't have time to exchange greetings and handshakes. They just pressed on Nightmare on point Shark, Leon, and Serge on point shields forward, with a nice and tight formation. They were coming up on the maintenance shafts that would lead them directing to the stations core. As Nightmare turned a corner down to the corridor that the maintenance hatch was in and two Insurgent fire-teams were waiting and quickly opened up. The shields took the first few salvos and Mers returned fire. Serge, Leon, and Shark hunkered down. Ghost and Fear dropped back behind the corner they came from. Mers crouched as another salvo opened up. He looked to his belt and grabbed a frag grenade and pulled the pin.

"Frag!" He barked as he tossed it over his three brothers in front of him. Boom! He looked up and swept his rifle from left to right. "Clear!" He said. Ghost and Fear rounded the corner and Nightmare stood up.

"The maintenance shaft is right there," Lt. Shark pointed to a small hatch that was lined in red. He typed in two sets of codes and it opened. "Follow the main shaft which should be a red strip on the floor. It should lead you to the core, if it doesn't hold tight and I will look for an alternate route." He said and pushed the hatch it and it slide upwards. Both squads went in and Shark re-sealed the hatch.

"Their down here!" Echoed down the corridor and all of them turned. Serge, Shark, and Leon got into position with Mers covered behind them. The Insurgents rounded the corner and open fired. Rounds pinged off of the shields, Mers waited for a turn to return fire. Once he had his turn he stood up and emptied his clip with each round hitting flesh. He ducked down and mechanically reloaded. The second the clip began to slide out he had his hand on the fresh clip on his belt and when the clip left the receiver another one replaced the spent one. He kept down though, because the insurgents began to fire back. Again he waited until he was clear to return fire. Once he had his chance he stood up and fired. This time a few Insurgents were waiting too and fired when he stood up. Mers popped off a few shots and as he ducked back down get hit in the shoulder plate. His adrenaline flared. He stood up and fired his bullets ripped the Insurgents in front of him apart. His clip ran dry and he dropped his rifle pulling his combat knife out, jumping over his squad-mates and charging forward. He opened up his arms and tackled the two remaining soldiers. He drove his knife into one of them, and the other kicked him in the side. His armor plate took most of the blow, but he still felt the hit. He focused on the man that kicked him, grabbed his foot and snapped it backwards. The man let out a scream and Mers got up and pulled out his pistol and put one right in the man's forehead.

"Damn, Mers remind me to never shoot at you." Cpl. Serge said slapping Mers on the back and handing him his rifle back, which he quickly reloaded. He looked down and ripped his knife out of the man's chest and put it back in its sheath.

"Leon and Serge you two secure that end of the corridor me and Mers have this end." Lt. Shark said pointing to each end. "We need to lock this area down until Ghost and Fear return." Each of them followed orders, Leon crouched against the wall and Serge stood up right behind him. Both Mers and Shark stood up snug against opposite walls. Shark had his rifle out, while Mers switched out his rifle for his SMG. Serge, Shark and Leon all removed their shields, but put kept them close by.

"Holy shit! This thing is running on an Anti-Matter core! Blowing this thing up would take out a huge section of the Asteroid Belt." Lt. Young said. "The only way to blow this thing is to deplete all of the Anti-Matter from the core itself. Hold on…….. There seems to be drainage containers for the Anti-Matter. If we could access them, then I could send the Anti-Matter to one of the Dreadnoughts and if the fleet does come we could use them to wipe the fleet out."

"Try and hack the system, in the mean time Fear plant one of your charges on one of the drainage containers. Just on the outside, don't do anything to the inside components. If the Anti-Matter becomes unstable in the process of its transfer we won't exist anymore." Lt. Shark replied.

"Copy, that. We shouldn't be much longer." Lt. Young said.

As Shark got off the horn, he pulled up the stations blue prints on his HUD (Heads Up Display). He was looking for the power wires to the corridor they were in, once he located them he walked over to where they should be and opened up. The bullets shredded the steel plating and after about five seconds everything went dark.

"Switch to thermal. The darker the better," he laughed. Everyone switched to thermals, the panels on the walls glowed a cool blue. For different visor settings each soldier in a squad had a color strobe for them. Shark had blue, Mers had purple, Serge had red and Leon had teal.

Mers open a closed battalion channel to Reaper and Hellfire, "This is N002, I am requesting confirmation from R001. We need to add to the list of things you need to obtain from the IDC (Insurgent Data-Core)."

"This is R001, I read you loud and clear please send your request. Via encrypted silent com." R001 replied.

Mers opened a silent com and added an encrypted coding with it, "Listen Ghost and Fear have discovered that the central power core of this thing is Anti-Matter so I suggest looking for files on how they brought such a huge source of energy this close without us knowing and also without us being able to see it while it is housed here." Sgt. Mers said.

"Shark we have found the codes to the drainage containers and are currently planting charges on them. We should be wrapping up shortly." Lt. Young reported in to Shark.

"Copy that, we are holding position right outside of the hatch you used to get in." Shark replied and once again looked behind him to make sure Serge and Leon were alright.

"Copy that N002. Tapping into the files right now." R001 reported back to Mers. R001 sent him a live feed of the reports and files he was uploading to the squads data reservoir. Classified files of how the ASC (Allied Space Command) HighCom members covered the Insurgent base up saying it was nothing more then a radioactive asteroid. One file was singled out by R001and Mers read it eyes wide.

Subject: ASC New Soldier Program

We have received information on the ASC's new underground soldier program. The program is run by an off the chart officer and is going to train children from the age of 8 till the age of 18 to be soldiers. This program could decide the war. Advise beginning a program for Insurgent super soldiers.

//: End

He closed the file and looked up and down the corridor. Everything was the same. He knew that if the Insurgents did have a Super Soldier program in the works that means Arch-Angel might actually get a challenge. He smirked at the thought, although Arch-Angel was deemed and recorded on classified files. They really aren't super soldiers they are just trained to the the T to be be killing machines. They have undergone training that would kill the normal marine. Winslow would even allow them to take drugs to enhance their strength, reflexes, and agility. Yet Arch-Angel was still unstoppable and would be. As long as they didn't get caught in the air. That is the one weakness in any infantry fighting team. Being dropped down or brought to their target by a drop ship.

"We're heading back to your position we have the charges planted, when we get off the station we will activate the draining protocols. We also sent out a distress beacon and our fly boys outside have been warned. I intend to use the Anti-Matter and wipe whatever they send." Lt. Young said.

"What about Reaper and Hellfire?" Lt. Shark asked.

"I am having Lt. Kenzel sending them a message to bail. They should have all the data we need." The maintenance hatch popped open and slid up. Out from it came Ghost and Fear.

"This way," Serge said taking point. He had his K-12s2 at his waist as he moved and it's belt of bullets hung over his shoulder. He turned the corner and kept moving.

The more Sgt. Mers thought about the lack of soldiers to confront him the more he realized that they were on a stealth Insurgent station that doesn't even have any defense grids. On top of that this entire section of the station was nailed by naval bombardment. They continued past the terminal Shark had used and into the pitch black corridors that they came through to get to where they were. They quickly got through that dark corridors and got to a sealed bulkhead that lead to space.

Leon looked around for the bulkhead opposite to the one they had to go through. He need to somehow shut it. He looked to the left and saw a steel rod with a hook on it and then looked back at the bulkhead. The bottom on the door had a small hole and he quickly grabbed the steel rod and put the hook in the hole and pulled down. He heard the mechanisms of the door going against him, but they needed the door to be down and looked. Serge came from behind and grabbed holed too. With grunts and strain the two soldiers pulled the door down far enough for the mechanics to give way. The door closed and with a lock it was sealed.

"Grab holed of something," Cpl. Lock said and planted a charge on the door. Everyone was quick to grab the railing on the walls. Click. Boom! A hole was in the bulkhead door and out went all of the air. The force of the pull from the vacuum was intense. Each soldier bared their teeth as they kept their death grips on the railings. Finally once all of the air was out of the room they could move around.

"This is Nightmare, Ghost and Fear calling for an immediate pick-up. Have you picked up Reaper and Hellfire yet?" Lt. Shark asked.

"Yes, both Reaper and Hellfire are in a drop ship inbound for the dreadnought "Sparta". We have a drop ship inbound to your position hold tight boys." A voice said into the coms. The drop ship came into view and slowed and the back hatch slowly opened up, each soldier jumped in. Through the zero-gee space they were able to jump a great distance and land inside of the cabin.

"This is Nightmare all are aboard, your clear to take off." Lt. Shark said to the pilot.

"Copy that." The pilot replied and they thrusted away soon the base looked a lot smaller.

"This is Dreadnought "Ares" we are receiving a flood of Insurgent commands, looks like they are bringing in the calvary on this one."

"Captain listen if you can locate the vector that they will be arriving we can wipe them out before they even have a chance to fight." Lt. Young said.

"Copy that Lieutenant, but how to propose we do that?"

"Well Captain the core to the station was Anti-Matter power core, we drained the Anti-Matter into their respective drainage containers and they are currently waiting for coordinates on where to launch. You give me those coordinates and the fleet will crushed." Lt. Young replied. '

"That is one hellava plan, son." The com went silent."The coordinates for the fleets entrance are vector gamma, 2.334, 4.546. Vector gamma, 8.342, 4.897." The Captain said.

"Roger that, now just kick back and watch the show." Lt. Young said as he typed the coordinates into the data pad on his wrist. The words coordinates locked appeared on the screen and he typed launch. They watched from the cabin as huge launch bays opened up out shot four massive containers. They were thrusting and began to halt just as the fleet appeared, at least twenty-five battle cruisers were infront of their faces. From the drop ship, Lt. Shark couldn't see the tiny looking containers now destroying the entire fleet.

"Wait for it, let the containers get inside of the fleet." Just as he said that he watched two ships leave the hanger of one of the cruisers. "Shit….. wait for it……" The ships inched closer. "Now!" Cpl. Wattson clicked the detention button and the sound cracked through the empty space. The nukes went off, but the second they did they were swallowed by the absolute darkness that the Anti-Matter produced. As all four of the containers were succumb to the gapping hole that was nothingness Lt. Shark had realized how deadly the weapon they just unleashed was. The entire fleet was swallowed, nothing would be left. The hole began to shrink as their was no more defiant to cancel out with itself. When the pure black hole depleted nothing remained except a haze of purple and azure. Nothing no twisted metal no wreckage, nothing. All three teams stared in awe at what was once one of the most powerful fleets in all of the Insurgent forces.

"Good….good work boys." Maj. Winslow's voice washed caroused all of Arch-Angel's coms killing the silence. As he ended the sound of AMC's cut through space and they all watched as the station was shredded to nothing but twisted metal and dust.

Like I explained they are an underground unit trained from a young age. They bear these ranks because of the extensive military education they have undergone in those years. I didn't go into detail about it, but they have studied every militaries downfall to how other have conquered.

Not copying Kublam on this, but I need characters and have never been good at coming up with names so any who want to be in this post your name and if you want to be in the story.

Politician/Marine/SpecMarine/High Ranking Soldier/RecMarine/A member of Arch-Angel battalion/Soldier-Political figure

I'll decide ranks and what not.

Ya but the soldiers your talking about have super-suits and have been chemically enhanced. My soldiers aren't so much as super soldiers, but more like the perfect soldier.

Ontop of that I've rewritten this book so many times and I began writing it a year before I even knew Halo existed..

And Funk I don't but I'll get to that don't you worry.

Haryou, Unknown Sector of Space
1st Recon Platoon
Echo Company
Fire-Team Kilo

"This is drop ship squadron Oscar, we are nearing LZ. ETA five minutes. Echo Company your going to be touching down first, followed up by Foxtrot. Secure a perimeter and wait for orders. Alpha and Bravo Companies will be coming down with supplies to set up base camp. Remember to keep all gear on, we don't want anyone freezing to death out there." Capt. Michaels said over the Battalion wide com channel.

Haryou was a heavily wooded planet.

Conference Room 0

General Baker sighed as he entered Conference Room 0. I place he hasn’t been in years. He took a seat in the dimly lit room. Which was a very uncomfortable cold. As he sat down the man sitting across from him stood up.

“Good, you all here. Now I have called you back here to discuss the new era in our history. We have discovered a new alien species on a planet marked as Y34. They wiped out an entire army of RecMarines that went ground-side to scout the planet out. We have no reports of the species having any air or space craft. We still are investigating. We do believe them to have space craft though, even though we haven’t encountered any thus far. This new enemy uses energy weapons. So they are advanced.” General Baker recognized the man’s voice now, Admiral Jensen. The man had done both great things for the ASF and horrible things. In one space skirmish with the insurgent forces he lost more then 5 ships, but to keep his rank he went and obliterated an entire rebel fleet with only a few ships in his command. Most think that Jensen allowed those ships to be destroyed in the skirmish. Others say he is a tactical mastermind in space.

“Well we must keep this whole thing under wraps, we can’t afford colonists not wanting to go to the outer colonies.” A woman’s voice said. Baker didn’t remember a woman being here last time. The voice was young yet had confidence in it. Baker leaned back in his chair.

“Well from what I understand we can’t beat these bastards on the ground and if we don’t know if they even have space craft yet I would count them off as a threat. We might be able to learn from them. I mean they have successful energy weapons something we have been trying to accomplish for years and years now. I say we wait it out and see what happens keep a small fleet in the area.” He said leaning forward now and pulling up the files on the attack. An entire army was wiped out in a matter of hours. All ground bases were caught completely off guard and with only little warning. Baker could tell after looking through all of the files that were in the dossier that they weren’t just here to discuss the new threat. He opened up one file it was about a negotiation with the rebels. The file was about Jensen. He skimmed through it and soon found what he was looking for. Jensen had not only sold the designs to an Anti-Matter power core, but also battle plan details. So all ASF’s engagement plans for the next year have been compromised and the rebels know everything.

“Just what in the hell am I looking at here Jensen?” Baker stood up and pointed down at the screen.

“Well recently I decided that we aren’t going to win this war. We are losing more and more colonies a day to the rebels. Their reach to much further then ours and so I decided to pre-maturely end the war. Which was set back as Maj. Winslow’s Spec-Ops forces destroyed the entire invading rebel fleet and the rebel forward outpost. Which by the way I don’t know how we detected it. I even put in codes to send the scanners crazy when they went over the damn thing so we would just think it had a high radiation level.” Jensen said sitting down now and taking a slip of the liquid in the glass next to him.

“This is treason! I can’t let you get away with this you gutless bastard!” Baker barked.

“Oh, but what can you do? Your on my ship. With everyone here fully ready and willing to take you out. Your a pest to my cause, you now know to much. I am sorry old friend, but this is much bigger then you.” Jensen said as the entire room seemed to be frozen in ice.

“High Command will know about this!” Baker said storming out of the room only to be caught by two guards. One was holding a rifle right to General Baker’s chest. Baker sighed and let the men take him away into the ships prison deck. On his way he clicked a switch on the back of his wrist watch hoping they send someone.

Nightmare Squad
“Investigation Order” from HighCom

“Were going down with the 4th Fast Drop Unit of RecMarines. So they know how to fight. We are going to be taking a slightly off course trip down then them. HighCom wants us to head to an unmarked facility to investigate it. Once we get ground said keep all com-channels encrypted until we figure out what the hell is going on. We also have complete control over our support. This order had come straight from the top to allow us to call in whenever we need something.” Lt. Shark said as he went over his rifle. Nightmare checked over their drop suits. Pockets of bio-gel lined the inside of the suit and can be released after the drop. The gel will tighten up at the last minute to take the huge impact of a hard landing that may occur due to wind currents changing during drop or failure to hit designated target.

Each member of Nightmare took one last check over weapons, ammo, and gear and lastly made sure everything was secured nice and tightly. They each climbed into their drop pods then. Once they were all latched in the door was closed and pressured. They each punched a button on the inside of the pod to signify they were ready for the drop. Soon after the RecMarines were all combat ready and awaiting the drop. It was like a few seconds went by after the red light in the pods turns blue that they dropped. Everyone’s stomach dropped completely. They went from no gravity to a sudden jolt of it yanking them down planet side. The cooling system kicked in after a few seconds of burning through the atmosphere. The system was a series of freezing air released from side panels into the pod right away heat vents were opened on the top to release the current hot air. The freezing air cooled them off for only a few seconds before the heat came back and another series of panels opened up releasing the freezing air. This happened a total of five times and at the end of the fifth time the pods were almost stopped the the chutes opening and slowing the pods down.

They neared their target LZ now. The courtyard of a school. It was about 2 klicks North of the facility they were suppose to investigate. Another set of chutes were deployed and this time the bio-gel began to activate. Each soldier braced themselves for the impact although not being able to move their legs felt weird. Then their harness locked them back into the seating seat of the pod. This was to make sure the spine would not break upon the extreme force of the impact. If nothing were to support it, it would snap like a twig. Sure enough after everything was completely locked. Crack! The pods smashed into the dirt ground of the courtyard. The pods dug in a good three feet. Everything unlocked and the bio-gel was heated and drained. Each solider smacked another button and the pod’s door was launched outwards. Lt. Shark came to the middle of the pods and each member came out shaking some part of their body.

“Damn that was fun!” Pvt. Leon said smacking his helmet and then shaking his head.

“Alright calm down we need to be focused. All we know ground side is that a few days ago everything on this planet went silent. All ground military bases gave no signal of anything happening so stay frosty and keep your eyes open for anything that you wouldn’t expect to see in a city. As of now were splitting into two small fire-teams. Leon your with me we are gonna stay on the ground and move through the buildings. Mers and Serge you guys head up to the roof and get a wider view over everything we are dealing with.” Lt. Shark said.

“What are about thermal scans and recon drones?” Mers asked confused on why they had to do their own recon.

“Well for some unknown reason nothing is picked up on scanners not even the planet’s thermal activity.” Lt. Shark said.

“I’m already not liking this. C’mon Serge we need to find away to the rooftops.” Mers said walking over to a chained and padlocked door leading into the school. He swept his rifle from right to left and then motioned for Serge to follow right behind him. The two quickly went through the near destroyed hallways lockers were either opened or the doors had fallen off. Old papers lined the walls and broken holo-pads lay shattered on the ground. The the floor, walls and certain lockers showed signs of a gunfight. Spent cases lay on the ground and bullet holes lined the walls or the lockers had them through them. Mers could sense something wasn’t right, this colony had gone dark only a few weeks ago and it looked like a war had completely over-ran this one school building. They stopped at a door that read roof and was cracked open. Mers leveled his rifle and kicked in the door to make sure it wasn’t holding any traps behind it. The coast was clear after he waited a few seconds and they headed up the stairs. The door that led to the roof was already opened and out they went into the sun’s rays.

“This is Mers. We are on the rooftops things don’t look from up here.” Mers reported in, as he scanned his view of smoldering buildings and vehicles being stopped and either flipped or burnt out. He pulled out his Km9A3 Sniper Rifle and sighted in through the scope to get a closer view at some of the buildings.

“Damage came from inside of the buildings, someone had brought bombs.” He looked and saw that debris was blown out into the streets. He also noted signs painted in the walls of certain buildings. One he quickly recognized as a pro-rebel gang. Inside of a circle were the letters BoE. Brotherhood of Exiles. The group has been long known to not only support the rebels, but also convert the ASF colonies through large riots and rebellions.

“Shark I’ve got a Brotherhood logo in my scope.” Mers reported.

“Shit.....alright I’ll send the message along to the 4th. Stay frosty we know this bastards love to being hell.” Shark replied back before cutting the com.

“Hey I got movement.” Serge said and Mers moved from his position over to Serge’s. He aimed his rifle and looked through his scope. Sure enough he could see a squad of Brotherhood rebels coming down the street. He guessed they were sent to investigate their LZ.

“Shark we’ve got a squad of em coming down the street that leads to the main entrance to the school. I’m going to take the shot.” Mers said as he began to calm his breathing and put his bi-pod up on the thin concert railing of the school.

“Copy that.” Was Shark’s reply.

Mers waited he blinked once and then felt his heartbeat. He skipped beats and as he did switched targets. He flicked from one soldier’s chest to the next. He blinked one more time and then pulled the trigger as the bolt slid back to release the empty shell his crosshairs were already on another soldier’s chest. As the bolt slid the next round in he fired a second round, and once again as the bolt hit back he was already to his next target. The entire squad had been wiped all five soldiers in a matter of five seconds. He folded the bi-pod up and pulled the empty magazine out and replace it with a fresh one.

“Tangos down.” Mers confirmed the kills.

Serge scanned the area for anymore Brotherhood patrols or search parties. Once he felt that they weren’t going to have to worry about another party for the time being he began to search for the facility they were sent to investigate. The entire city was in ruins nearly no building was left either untouched or destroyed. As he looked to the right he spotted a building that was untouched. No fires no explosive damage nothing. He patted Mers on the back who was looking in the other direction and as Mers turned Serge pointed to the building. Mers brought his scope up and looked at the building another Brotherhood logo was painted on it. He sighed.

“I see a Brotherhood logo, but that looks like it matches the description.” Mers brought his scope down and the two began back down to link up with the rest of Nightmare. It didn’t take long to find Shark and Leon they were in what looked like the main office of the school and they were going through the school’s data-base trying to find what happened.

“We found our target only it looks like it might be in Brotherhood hands.” Mers said strapping his rifle on his back and unclipping his assault rifle.

“Ya well from what we’ve uncovered the Brotherhood is the least of our worries. These records talk about some infection that spread through the entire city like a wildfire. They also talk about the gangs taking power because of the infection, but that isn’t the worst part. The infection changed it’s victims mutated them. The infected victims would die and hours later wake up and freak out then slowly change. The gangs have done what they can to keep the infected from the city. So are best bet is to try and reason with the Brotherhood.” Shark said.

“I say we don’t, how do we know they didn’t start this infection just to gain power?” Mers said walking over to the terminal Shark was using.

“Because the reports talk about how the infection started, but once it goes into exactly how it happens it blacks it out. What ever happened to this planet the ASF don’t want anyone to know what happened.” Shark said.

“Then why the hell were we sent here? If they already know everything we shouldn’t even be here.” Serge said.

“I don’t have the answer to that, but they would waste us on a fubar mission. I’ll call in.” Shark said closing down the terminal. He opened a private com.

“This is Lt. Shark of Nightmare, requesting direct link to Admiral Jones.”

“Copy that linking you directly to the Admiral,” An Ensign said.

“What is it Nightmare?” The Admiral asked.

“What have we not been told?” Shark asked walking around and looking up and certain times.

“I don’t know what your talking about what have you discovered planet side?”

“Well for starters we found that the Brotherhood is running the show down here, and in some basic school data-base files found that an infection has been plaguing the planet. So their is no way in hell that we didn’t know about it. Now I’ll ask again, what have we not been told?” Shark was on the verge of yelling. He has never gotten pissed at a higher officer before, but now he knew how it felt.

A sigh washed over the com,”We knew about the infection weeks ago, but we didn’t think it would escalate to such a level. Once the infection changed to mutation our scientists were very interested so we keep cities infected to study. Well another change happened, the infection went airborne and spread all over the planet. We then decontaminated the planet shortly after, but the infection mutated again. It can only be spread by either being bitten by one of the infected or for the blood or other fluid from one of the infected to get on you. The facility you are being sent to is the last known location of the scientist that was doing huge studies and getting far into the development of how the infection works. We need the information from his lab and if possible him, once you get in the lab I will send you the access codes to anything you need.” Admiral Jones said closing the com.

“They sent us here in the dark. They know what is here, the RecMarines might not even know yet. So lets hurry up and get to that lab. The sooner we get out the sooner we can make sure this planet becomes under control from the ASF again.” Shark said unclipping his rifle and leveling the school’s office.

The members of Nightmare looked at each other shrugged their shoulders and followed behind Shark. They got out onto the streets and picked up the pace keeping a five meter spread and having their eyes wide open. They went around the destroyed cars and debris that littered the street. Leon caught it out of the corner of his eye.

“RPG! Cover now!” He barked as he knew the hiss of the rocket and the flash from the launch. Nightmare scattered, Mers and Serge dove behind fallen debris, while Leon was behind destroyed car and Shark was in a hole that was created from some sort of explosion. The RPG slammed right infront of where they were gravel and dirt rained down on them.

“Where the hell did that come from?” Shark asked looking around.

“The building to the West. I watched it come from the third floor, I couldn’t tell which window.” Leon said looking out from his cover, another one was coming this one directly for the car he was behind. “Shit.” Boom! The RPG hit and sent the car flipping over Leon and away. Leon himself was blown backwards he rolled to a stop and got up shook the explosion off. Before he could move a shot rang out and Leon got it right to the shoulder. The round didn’t go through his armor, but he still felt the impact. He hit the ground and his head smacked the hard gravel. He went into a sort of shock and began to black out.

“God damnit! Mers get that sniper now so I can get him out of their.” Shark said.

“On it.”Mers said unclipping his rifle, and bring his scope up. He set his rifle on some debris and began to scan the building. He saw the sniper almost instantly. He smirked at how easy the shot was going to be. He waited a few seconds and watched as the sniper got up to switch positions and Mers just lightly squeezed the trigger. He felt a little tap to his shoulder and watched as the sniper was hit right in the neck and he fell backwards. “Clear!” He barked and Shark didn’t hesitate to rush over to Leon.

“Cole! Cole! C’mon bro. We need to get out of here!” Shark said looking over his vitals and seeing that he was on the verge of shock. He was quick to add a stimulant his suit to bring him out of if. Leon woke grasping his shoulder and breathing really heavy. “C’mon we need to go.” Shark said helping his brother up.

“Damn that thing hit pretty hard,” Leon laughed shaking the pain in his shoulder off as Nightmare headed into the buildings to try and get a better over-view of their situation and how thick the defense between them and the lab is. They all came over to a building that looked sturdy and Serge kicked in the boarded up doors. In they went knowing that no Brotherhood soldiers would be inside waiting for them. Instead they found something worse. As the dust cleared they found themselves looking directly at twenty plus zombies. A few hissed and they began running towards Nightmare, who opened up quickly. Serge crouched down and sprayed salvos of bullets that just pelleted the walking corpses. The creatures almost turned to mush the second the bullets hit and ripped their weakened bones to shreds.

“Damn these things are easy to kill.” Serge said getting up feeding another belt into his weapon.

“Hold that thought.”

“Admiral the infected are easy to kill, how can they over-run a city let alone an entire planet. What else hasn’t been told to us?”

“The infected mutate after certain periods of time. They get stronger and faster as time passes. So it is a code five priority to get to that lab.” Admiral Jones said.

“Great more good news.”

“I’m sorry you weren’t informed before, but you neither the 4th Fast Drop Unit were even suppose to encounter the infected. We know that the gangs have been very good at keeping their territory clean. Which is where you and the 4th were dropped. The 4th was dropped to secure the planet’s capital to download all documented data about the plague, and so the area would be clear for scientists to land.” Admiral Jones said.

“Ya know for us to do our damn job Admiral that requires us to know everything about what we are going into, not finding out as we go. So I’m going to ask one last time, is their anymore we need to know!?”

“You need to calm down, son. I’m still your outranking officer.” Admiral Jones replied back.

“Doesn’t mean I respect you, hell we aren’t even a recognized military branch so your rank means nothing to me. Just answer the damn question! Is their anymore we need to know?” Shark asked beginning to let his temper slip through his fingers.

“One more thing, the infected become alot more active at night. So when the sun begins to fall you need to get inside somewhere where you can barricade yourself in.” Admiral Jones said.

“Thank you, Nightmare out.” Shark said closing the com and kicking dirt. “This shit better never happen again, its one thing to inform us new information as we go, but everything we have found is everything they have known for weeks to months now.” He said trying to calm himself down. The last thing they need is a pissed off leader who would allow his anger to blind his decisions.

“Mers get to a window and scope the lab out try a find a way in that allows the least detection. Cause once night falls were going.” Shark said and looking at his clock. That gave them a two hour resting period.

“Hey what about the infected? Remember they come out at night.” Leon said as they headed up the stair way and stopped and came out of the stairwell on the fifth floor. Mers was quick to find a window and begin searching for an entrance.

Damn...ya were going to have to take that into effect. Mers locate a building rooftop we can repel to from here that is out of sight, but we can still get into the lab fine. We are going to be dropping some gear and I want it close by so on our way out we can get it. Without a problem.” Shark said walking over to Mers who had his rifle in between two boards that were on a window.

“Gotcha.” Mers said adjusting his scope. Shark just turned and walked back over to Leon and Serge.

“Right now were going to mod out of Mk6’s and turn them to Nk6’s. Then we are going to be changing the plating of our suits. Remove any plates that don’t guard vital organs.” Shark said popping two pins out of his Mk6 and removing the breech and bolt. Then pulling both new parts out and replacing them. He then reached for a tool and brought it to where the barrel connects to the weapon and just twisted it once and was able to unscrew the barrel all the way off. He replaced the barrel and tightened the screw and slid a magazine into the weapon and pulled the bolt back. Now time for one last mod to it, he removed the stock and replaced it with a shorter version. Now he had an Nk6 SMG. Leon and Serge finished shortly after.

They next moved to removing plates. Once done each of them had solely one chest plate, should plates, an abdominal plate and two thigh plates. Under the armor they still had on their carbon fiber combat clothing that clung to their bodies. Mers was still at the window he looked like a statue until he readjusted his scope and and then got up and motioned Shark over. He pulled the two boards off and threw them to the side.

“Alright that building right there.” Mers pointed to a building that was directly infront of the lab and looked to be inside of the now appearing Brotherhood compound.”We can repel down to it without being noticed, drop our gear and then from their I’ll explain how we will do the rest.” Mers said getting up to mod his Mk6 and his armor.

Once he was done Nightmare was almost ready to go. As they prepped the launcher to launch the stake to the roof do they could repel gunfire in the streets done before broke out. They all peered out of the window and could see Brotherhood troops engaging the infected. The infected were charging at the Brotherhood who standed their ground as the huge horde of infected came towards them. Bullets pelleted the dead decaying bodies and they dropped to nothing but a mush. Nightmare soon saw what a heavily mutated infected like. A huge monster came roaring down the street bashing and crushing other infected as it barreled towards the Brotherhood troops. An RPG met it half way though and blew it to burning flesh and bone. Shark had seen enough and tapped Mers on the back as they all grabbed their gear to drop and Mers launched the stake which drove into the rooftop. Mers clipped the rope to a support beam in the building and once he thought the repel was safe clipped on and down he went with Nightmare following shortly after. As Mers hit the roof and rolled to break the impact he came up to the ledge and peeked his head over to observe their surroundings. Two guards watched the main doors and three were currently on patrol. Lights surrounded the entire lab, but one was on right where they needed to get to.

“Drop your gear and attach suppressors.” Shark said as he dropped his bag filled with his gear and just grabbing six magazines of Nk6 ammo.

“From here we will have to climb a rope to the top of the lab and once their head into the hatch leading into the lab.” Mers said prepping another repel line. He attached one end to the the stake he launched into the roof they were currently on and then launched the new stake into the top of the lab and yanked to make sure it would hold weight. He then pulled out an EMP emitter and clipped into on his belt and flipped the switch, the emitter would hamper all electronics in the vicinity of it. The lights in the area along with sensors and security systems all went down and they began the climb. Once all of Nightmare was on the roof he flipped the emitter off. They were quick to open the hatch and head into the lab.

Once inside Mers took point while he was scanning for their entry point he had also taken the time to download the blueprints of the building to his HUD. He notices that most of the labs top floor had been destroyed the ceilings had collapsed, desks were flipped over and papers littered the floor. Nightmare just moved around the debris and Mers led them to an elevator shaft.

“Alright from here we have to go dark, from the looks of things from the outside they have security all over this thing. We need to get to the bottom levels of the lab, thats where all of the scientists and data-bases are.” Mers said stopping at a doorway that had the stairwell in it.

“I don’t want any coms open from here on out unless I say so, keep it to hand signals and none com talking.” Lt. Shark said turning his com system off and began down the stairs. He got to the first floor and slowly opened the door and peered out everything looked clear and he spotted a dark cover spot for him and Nightmare to stack up on. He waved them over and pointed to the spot. Each of them nodded and out they went. They had just gotten into cover as a patrol came around a corner and they all ducked down. The patrol passed and they pressed on looking for the stairwell down to the lower level of the lab where they needed to be. The hallways were still trashed only this time ammo crates and Brotherhood equipment lined the hallways. They kept moving without delay until they reached a door that had the word LAB above it and they were quick to slip in as they heard another patrol heading down the hallway infront of them.

Shark pointed down with two fingers and then at Leon and Serge, both understood perfectly and they put the stock of their SMG’s into their shoulders and down they went in a two man formation with both Mers and Shark left behind for the time being as they went over the blue prints to the Lab. So they knew exactly where to go to get what they needed. They located the room and headed down to both Serge and Leon waiting at the door leading into the Lab.

“From here on out you are weapons free on anything minus the scientists and any equipment you think might be important. Is that clear?” Shark said, and he was given three nods. They stacked up and went in. As they entered two guards were just about to open the door and as they raised their weapons they were cut down. Nightmare kept moving, but it was too late one of the guard’s fingers pulled the trigger and a bullet was fired. Almost instantly an alarm was sounded and Nightmare was quick to react they knocked over some of the equipment as more Brotherhood troops rounded a corner and they fired, but Nightmare was already behind the equipment and the rounds flew over their heads and slammed into the walls. When the gunfire stopped Nightmare returned fire only the troops were caught in the open reloading not thinking of retreating behind the corners. Nightmare cut them down quickly and turned to begin heading deeper into the Lab. A scientists ran out infront of them and he dropped to his knees and held up his hands as their weapons followed him.

“Get up! We need access to this facilities data-base! Can you do that?” Shark asked the scared man on the ground. Serge and Leon were a few feet ahead of them engaging a wave of guards.

“Y..yes I can get you the codes to access the data-base.” He said in slurred speech trying to get up, but a bullet smashing into the wall next to him made him drop again. Leon and Serge hurried to wrap the fire-fight up after taking a few rounds themselves, but only to their armored plates. They fired their last rounds and reloaded.

“Clear! But I wouldn’t doubt that they have more of the bastards on the way!” Serge said trying to look around the corner, but their where boxes and consoles in the way. He just decided he was fine with what he could see and just leveled his weapon ahead and waited for more of them to come. As the Scientist led both Mers and Shark to the data-base room he was stopped right outside the door.

“My ID won’t work!” He said looking back and as he did a voice boomed within the room.

“This is Captain Jason Brecart. I want to know why you are in my facility, and how you even got in?” The voice boomed.

“This is an ASF facility and we are here to retrieve the data stored here about the infection.” Shark replied back trying to keep a calm tone, but it wasn’t really working.

“So your ASF agents?” A long pause happened, “How about we give you the data with out anymore problems and you order a few naval bombardment strikes for us?” The Brotherhood Captain asked.

“Now why would we help you?” Shark asked amused.

“Well I’ve seen how you have infiltrated this facility without warning and then took out half a platoon of my men. So all I ask from here on out is your cooperation so no more of my men have to die. The targets I want you to take out are the main hives of where the infection hide during the day in the area. This would put less stress on the surviving population and our efforts to quarantine the area.” The Captain said.

Shark replied almost shocked, “hmmm how can we trust you? The Brotherhood have turned their backs on the ASF’s actions before.”

“Those are primary branches of the Brotherhood I support and lead within the secondary branches the ones that actually fight for the betterment of human government and all things relating to improving living conditions. If you meet me in the main control lab on the second floor we can make proper negotiations.” The Captain said.

“Fine we will come up, but if you don’t hold up on your end...we won’t hesitate to kill everyone here.” Shark said with all peacefulness leaving his voice.

“My men will lead you up.” Was the final words and two Brotherhood troopers walked in the door keeping it open. Shark and Mers walked out infront of them and met up with both Leon and Serge with two more troopers infront of them.

“This way.” One of the troopers growled. Nightmare followed him up the stairwell that they had silently came down, up and out onto the first floor. From there they headed up another stairwell and out onto the second floor. The entire look of the place changed. This floor was by far neater and more organized then the first floor. Flags hung down bearing the Brotherhood insignia. They were stopped at a door and one of the troopers typed in a code and told them to enter as the door slide open. Nightmare walked in and could see two men and then from his commanding appearance Captain Brecart was standing between them.

“Hmmm from the look of the symbols and insignias on your armor you don’t look to be ASF Special Forces.” Capt. Brecart observed,”Mercenaries?” He asked.

“No. We work for the ASF though.” Shark said keeping eyes flicking around the room to make sure they weren’t going to be ambushed. Once he felt they weren’t his eyes settled on the man infront of him.

“Well then, I am not here to interrogate you for who you work for. I’m here to give you the coordinates of the hives.” Brecart said stepping over to a holo-map of the area.

“Here.” He tapped a building on the map. “Here.” He tapped another,”and here.” He tapped a final place and the coordinates came up for each location.

“This is Lt. Shark of Nightmare Squad I’m requesting three naval bombardments on three separate locations. All three of them are must kill very high risk targets. I’m sending the coordinates now.” Shark said tapping on his wrist pad to send the coordinates.

“Roger that Nightmare, are these targets danger close?” The ensign that would be launched the strikes asked.

“Negative these are not danger close, but these targets need to be wiped off the face of the planet.” Shark said looking back down at his wrist to make sure everything was correct and once he was satisfied he turned the pad off. They all walked over to one of the room’s windows that looked off into the dark city. As they all stopped four blue bolts burnt through the atmosphere and cracked into the ground four more hit and then a final four. The building shook a bit, “Target one has been obliterated. Prepping to fire on target two.” The ensign said.

The building shook again, “Target two has been destroyed. The cannons are charging for target three.”

The building shook a final time, “All three targets have been hit. Hope that did it Nightmare.” The ensign reported.

“Very good, that should slow the infection from spreading and might even give the survivors in the area that we don’t know about a fighting chance.” Capt. Brecart said walking over to his holo-map and the three targets had been a city park, office building, and lastly a military base.

“Well we have held up our part of the deal, so would you kindly get the data for us?” Shark said.

“Yes, but on one more condition and this one is for me and my men. You need to convince the ASF that our presence here is not to fight against them.” Capt. Brecart said.

“I can’t promise you anything, because what with the Brotherhood building a military presence in ASF controlled space. Then the Brotherhood politicians trying to overthrow the ASF rule on planets, you guys aren’t the best of friends.” Shark said. The mood in the room changed.

“I understand, but as I have said once before the branch of the Brotherhood I work under is only to seek the best way to handle human colonies. If that means overthrowing the ASF rule then so be it, but it isn’t always our first idea.” Capt. Brecart had a look of concern in his eyes. Shark knew the man was speaking the truth.

“I’ll try to get them to understand.” Shark said putting his hand out for Brecart to shake. Brecart noticing the man’s arm go out infront of him did the same and the took shook hands. As they did the door open and a trooper stormed in, “Sir, we have breaches in our left flank!”

“Infected?” Brecart asked shooting his gaze to the holo-map to look at their left flank and he knew the answer before the trooper said it.

“No sir, the local gangs have band together to assault us while the infected pounds our southern flank. We need to get reinforcements to the left flank ASAP.” The trooper said.

“Are you up for a fight?” Brecart asked looking at Shark. “Because your boys here killed a quarter my reinforcement unit.” He said. From behind Shark both Serge and Leon laughed lightly at the thought of how easy it was.

“We need ammo.” Shark said turning to his brothers. “We will also need to go back and pick up the rest of our gear, if you want us to be able to fight in open terrain.

“The armory is down the hall and yes I would rather have you completely battle ready.” Brecart said leading them to the main doors of the lab. Nightmare was quick to head to the building they had dropped all of their gear on. Once they got topside they cut the rope coming from the building they first started in and the put on the rest of the gear and did a quick swap of parts on their weapons turning them back into Mk6 assault rifles. They each had a different colors of paint that stripped down their armor, but the armor had made them look alot more intimidating. Of course each of them had different customizations. Nightmare re-entered the lab and headed to the armory, Brotherhood soldiers stared in awe at the tank looking soldiers walking down the corridor and entering the armor to grab ammo. They each loaded up with as much as they could Mers grabbed explosive rounds for his sniper rifle and slipped them in a bullet belt that went around his left arm. Nightmare was combat ready in under three minutes.

“I’m gonna get to the roof.” Mers said breaking off and heading back the way they had come before. While the rest of Nightmare met up with Brecart and a few of his troopers that would act as the reinforcements to the left flank.

“Where is your other man?” Brecart asked confused.

“Roof...sniper.” Shark said.

“Ahh good. One thing I’ve never really tried to train my men is sniping. Not much on this planet that needs a precision kill to do the job. Follow me.” Brecart said leading Nightmare and his own men to the left flank. When they arrived Shark knew the gangs knew what they were doing.

“We have a machine guns nest up their.” Brecart pointed to a nearly destroyed cover point with a machine gun sticking out of it.

“You get your boys to rebuild that and we will keep them off your back.... Mers you in place?” Shark asked looking up, but all he could see was a blended building into the dark night sky.

“Yes.” Mers said as he set his rifle down and got into a comfortable position and sighted in his scope to make sure his shots would go exactly where he wanted them to.

“Good, tell us when the bastards on coming.” Shark said trying to look out into the emptiness that was about to be their battlefield.

“Roger that.” Mers said switching his rifle scope to a night vision setting. He looked into the distance and saw at least a platoon of what looked like rag-tag soldiers marching towards them.

“I have a platoon on scope. You better do what you are going to do and do it fast.” Mers said looking again. He judged they had about five to six minutes before they got to the destroyed gates that they had to protect.

“ETA for the platoon is about five minutes.” Mers said and then readied himself with setting his magazines in a line to the right of him so he could reload his rifle a steady pace.

Shark pointed to where he wanted Serge set up, a cement blockade. He could set up his SAW and lay down constant salvos of rounds. Shark and Leon stayed put inbetween two crashed cars that had been burnt out. Nightmare stilled as the cool night air cut through their armor and touched their skin making their senses stand on end. It wasn’t long before they could here the platoon marching towards them. Brecart and his men were almost complete with stacking sandbags to protect the machine gun nest. All of Nightmare switched to night vision to see the incoming threat. Serge aimed down his sights. Mers slowed his breathing and allowed his heartbeat to fill his head next to the targets he was picking. Shark and Leon peered out and began counting down. Brecart and his men finished their task. One of his men pulled back the bolt loaded in a belt of rounds and let the bolt shoot back into position. He shook his shoulders and got ready for the carnage.

“When I fire my first round open up not until then I wanna try and get the most I can inside of the gate so cutting them down won’t be a problem.” Mers said his finger licking the trigger as he imagined taking the shots on his targets. Five men in back that looked to be in command of the platoon. They each had a insignia on their chests that were completely different then the rest of the men marching. He let out a final breath and let his heartbeat fill his head he shut out the noise, he shut out the chill. He waited two seconds and they were exactly where he wanted them. His finger just lightly squeezed the trigger and a bullet shot out of the barrel and smacked right into one of his target’s neck. Nightmare and Brecart opened up. Serge fired ten round salvos while Brecart’s man just hosed the platoon down. The first few lines of the platoon were cut down while the rest scrambled for cover. Mers fired on his second target and nailed him in the stomach. The other three targets had moved to cover in the hell that just took place. Mers let out his breath and observed the battle unfolding infront of him. Serge was reloading at this point. Shark and Leon were taking turns popping out and firing at gang soldier that were trying to see where everyone of the enemies were. Serge was ready to go again and crawled over to the edge of the cement blockade he was behind. He could lay down and have his entire body covered and be able to just stick his head out to see the entire right flank of the gate. Which had soldiers trying to sneak across. He gave a slight chuckle and cut them down with a quick twenty round sweep.

“Mers you need to relay us the positions on the enemy cause it’s hard to see anything down here.” Shark said all he could see were the soldiers that were right infront of him.

“Serge already got the bastards moving along the right flank, you have two directly infront of you behind that broken up wall.” Mers said and Shark looked up and saw the wall he aimed and fired letting his rifle tear up the wall.

“Thats a kill.” Mers reported and as he said it he watched as one of his targets ran out of cover trying to move to a different position he aimed and fired and watched as the man dropped dead.

“Shit Mers were taking fire!” Shark said and Mers looked down to see bullets slamming into the two cars. He followed the stream of rounds to two soldiers that were currently reloading he fired two quick rounds off and watched both of them drop. He was quick to reload pulling his mag out and slapping another one in. He pulled the bolt back and looked through his scope again.

Brecart fired off a few rounds, the machine gun had run dry and now his men were reloading it. A rocket smacked into the gravel right infront of the nest and the soldier on the gun ducked down another rocket smacked into the wall above the nest and the bricks collapsed and fell on the top of the nest. The heavy beams held the brick, but the rockets were getting closer.

“Shark tell your boy to find where the hell those rockets are coming from.” Brecart barked.

“Mers you need to get rid of those rockets now!” Shark said popping off a few rounds. He went down as another wave of bullets rattled against the cars.

“Roger that.” Mers said switching his scope to thermal vision and following the trail of heat the rocket had made as it flew towards Brecart’s nest. He stopped right where the trail stopped, their was nothing. As he was about to pick another target he saw something move and from where the thing moved from he knew it was someone in cover reloading. He aimed right above the moving soldier and as he came up to fire another rocket Mers put a round right in his stomach. The man dropped over and the rocket fired off into the sky. He brought his aim over to a group of soldiers firing in a line from behind cover. Mers pulled out his magazine and set it as the last mag in his set and loaded a fresh one in, switched from target to target then finally he let his first round off and then another and another. He wiped the fifth guy and reloaded.

“Clear.” Mers said and then scanned for anymore targets that he needed to take out.

Serge ducked back and reloaded he pulled the bolt back and poked his head up looking for more targets he saw that they were pulling back. He brought his weapon up and unleashed cutting the poor bastards down as they tried to run away. Soon the entire platoon was either dead or running.

All of them met up in the middle of the courtyard.

“They will be regrouping and coming back, but I already sent a runner to the main Brotherhood base camp they will be sending another batch of reinforcements. So my men will stay here and use the machine gun to hold down the fort if anymore gangs show up.” Brecart said.

“We still need the data and we’ve done more then asked to help you out.” Shark said.

“Yes you have and I thank you, one of my men will have it waiting for us.” Brecart said as he began walking back to main doors of the lab.

Earth’s CentCom
HighCom
Emergency Meeting

All the members on High Command sat around one massive table banners hung down behind each of the Governors and Admirals or Generals. The flags were either for the planet they served on or for the Admirals and Generals their own personal flags bearing the symbols they wanted to signify the men serving under them.

“We are here on a emergency meeting to discuss Admiral Jensen. From the few reports General Baker could get in, Admiral Jensen has fully turned to the rebels. General Baker himself is being held prisoner on Admiral Jensen’s ship the Black Fox. Everything has gone dark the only thing we have is a very faint signal from General Baker’s transmitter. So we are going on full alert and expect an Insurgent attack, as of now all ASF pass codes to our data-bases have changed, we can’t have Jensen taking all the information he wants. Our best guesses say that he copied everything expect the private sections of the data-bases. So he doesn’t know about our latest project the Anti-Matter Cannon.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said looking all around the room. He was the oldest member of the ASF he had done more then enough to deserve the position he is in, from being a solider to becoming a tactician an finally leading the entire ASF. The man’s experiences had made his eyes near deadly to look at, but he was still a beacon of hope among everyone. He was known to attend bootcamp graduations to let the young soldiers of the great work they are doing. He has also done many campaigns to boost morale within all of humanity. An Insurgent would say it’s just to get more men to kill, but Supreme Commander Hawkins has never seen it that way, he strives for the betterment of Humanity.

His gaze cut through everyone in the room, “I expect all lesser Admirals to be given this information. We need to get General Baker back he is one of our top ranking field Generals. Without him we might not be able to over come a major ground invasion by the Insurgents.” Supremer Commander Hawkins said.

“Sir, what about the rest of our active Generals? We surely must have one with his talent on the battlefield.” A younger General said.

Hawkins knew the man was talking about himself, “ I’ve personally read every battle report from our field Generals and no one has mastered the art like General Baker has. He is a major figure in winning this war once and for all.” The young General sat back down in defeat knowing he has had flaws in his campaigns where he made tiny mistakes costing the lives of hundreds of men under him.

“I have called this meeting to discuss how we should rescue General Baker. I have a few plans for the matter, but I want to open it up for discussion for any of you and if the plan is valid then we will execute it.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said looking about the room.

“My men sir, they can do it easily. Every mission I’ve sent them on to date has been a major success.” Major Winslow said from the back of the large room.

“Hmmm I’m not familiar with you.... who are you?” Supreme Commander Hawkins asked looking bewildered to who was speaking.

“Major Ken Winslow, sir. Founder and CO of Arch-Angel Battalion. The underground special forces battalion I have been training. They have already gone on a total of ten missions, sir. Each one has been a complete success. Nightmare Squad is currently Anza retrieving the data regarding the infection on the planet. From what I know about my boys, I say they should be back in space within the next few days. Ghost Squad and Fear Squad are both on stand-by and Reaper Squad is on Helum seeking out a major Insurgent weapons factory. Reports have also indicated that one of the Insurgents leading officers is at the factory and his death has been added to their objective list, sir. If anyone is fit for the job it’s my soldiers, sir.” Major Winslow said standing confidently.

Hawkins pulled up the dossier on Arch-Angel’s missions. Their first mission was destroying entire Insurgent recon base within ASF space and then the fleet coming to engage the entire ASF fleet near Earth. The list went on and on those ten missions that they had completed had made a dent in the Insurgent forces and how they operated.

“You men do a damn fine job, Major Winslow.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said closing the dossier. “The question is how will they get on a ship with the most highly advanced detecting and stealth systems we have at our disposal?” He asked.

“Oh, my boys will find away. They are trained to deal with high stress missions like they are nothing. This mission will be highly stressful on a normal ASF Special Operations unit. So once both Nightmare and Reaper return from their current missions we can begin the searching for this vessel then crack it.” Winslow said allowing a smirk before his eyes touched those of the Supreme Commander.

“Very well. We shall begin the search when Nightmare and Reaper Squads return. As for now I want all of you on high alert for incoming attacks. The Insurgents have never been organized in how they attack, they normally attack one planet or outpost then leave. With Jensen having over half of the data-base we can expect attacks to be organized and more then useful to the rebel cause. This meeting is dismissed.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said and left his seat that towered over all of the other seats.

Brotherhood Controlled Lab
Nightmare Squad
“Investigation Order” from HighCom

“God damn these cots are like solid stone.” Serge said sitting up and rubbing his back. Nightmare had been invited to rest up at the Lab, after being given the data they came to retrieve.

“Ahh quit your bitchin, James.” Mers said getting up and smacking Serge on the back. “So Eric, you find anything in those extra files Brecart gave you?” Mers asked. Brecart had been holding onto a chip that contained files only someone with the correct coding could open. Shark of course called in the codes and was able to crack the chip. He had found a massive amount of data on the infection. How it started, where it originated from, and how to destroy it once and for all.

“Yes, I have actually. The infection started in the back country right outside the city. Some space ship was said to of crashed in the area and soon after the crash was reported infected victims began sprouting up. Soon other crashes were recorded and shortly after the entire planet went dark.” Shark said typing away and just staring into the screen infront of him. “Oh one more thing the ships were brought in to study then destroyed, and they aren’t human ships.” Shark said looking up at his squad-mates. Silence filled the room very quickly.

“I wonder if HighCom knows this.” Serge said putting out some vitamin paste and sucking down half of the tube. He gagged at the taste, but shook his head and got over it.

“I have no clue, but I told that bastard to tell me everything he knew. When we get back into space we will find out.” Shark said as his temper began to flare again.

“Even if they did it doesn’t matter as of now, we know everything there is to know.” Mers said hoping it would calm Shark down some. “Now we should get moving, we need to get back up to space by today and were going to have to get a good distance away from this base before we can do so, you know that if they see a Brotherhood base they will destroy it without question.” He finished and began to put his armor on. The rest of Nightmare followed shortly after.

Nightmare was at the door of Capt. Brecart’s command room. They entered and found Capt. Brecart conversing with a few of his Lieutenants.

“Brecart do you have anything that can get us out of here fast?” Lt. Shark asked as the young looking Lieutenants left the room behind Nightmare.

“Yes I do actually, it is a civilian vehicle. Why?” Brecart asked looking up from his work infront of him.

“We are calling an evac and if we are near this base they will destroy it.” Shark said.

“What about you telling your leaders that we are fighting for a good cause?” Brecart asked with a slight tone of regret for helping them out.

“Well the nearest Commanding Officer is the Admiral of the ship that is currently in orbit, and he is an asshole. So I would suggest taking the odds of us trying to stop the Admiral from blowing you to hell and back. Once I regain contact with my Battalion CO I will have him send a message to HighCom relating to your existence and reasoning behind what you do. Hell your might even get a seat on the council if HighCom sees that what your doing is for the betterment of Humanity.” Lt. Shark said looking straight ahead, but of course Brecart nor another could see any of the faces of Nightmare. Their pitch black visors hid so much emotion, and thats the way they were suppose to look like. To a normal soldier on the front lines of an actual battlefield and not in a hellish zombie infested planet, Nightmare would scare the living hell out of them.

“Alright then, follow me I’ll take you to it.” Brecart said walking past Nightmare and out the door. Nightmare was quick to fall in behind him and walk down the hallway and into a wing they had not been in yet. Diagrams were posted all over the walls and tools lay on cluttered metal desks.

“This is the engineering department of the lab and we have turned it into a weapons factory with the information even those limited to the actual data-base we were able to design and test weapons that can be very useful towards the infected. One being these.” Brecart pointed to a row of vehicles that had been fortified with thick steel plates, a ram and a machine gun mounted on the back of them. “The most useful thing we have put on this is a sound system it can either attract the infected and fend them off. Very useful when we go on civilian evac runs. You can take one their is an open area to the east of here, we think it might be controlled by the gangs we fought yesterday, but from what I’ve seen they won’t pose much of a threat to you boys.” Brecart said finishing it off with a faint smirk.

“Alright you heard the man, load one of these things up and were outta here.” Lt. Shark said and placing his hand on Brecart’s back and led him away from the rest of Nightmare as they did as they were ordered. “Thanks for the help and making things go alot smoother. We weren’t given all the intel and known data on this mission before we were sent down, and we picked most of the unknown information up from a school log system. I will information my correct CO of your presence here, I don’t think the ASF will be sending any forces down for awhile as it is. Maybe a few RecMarines, but not in the massive scale that they sent down this time. I don’t trust Admiral Jones though.” Shark said putting his hand out to Brecart, who looked down and shook it.
Shark turned around and got back to his squad loading his own gear before jumping into the drivers seat. He turned the key and stepped on the pedal and the vehicle gunned it out of the hangar it was in. Nightmare hit a highway soon after leaving the Brotherhood base and headed East. Mers was sitting shotgun, with Serge in the back seat and Leon on the machine gun mounted on the back.

“Mers open up the evac com we were given. Tell them to mark a LZ in our area and we we’ll be there.” Shark said swerving around car and then dodging pot holes in the ground.

“Can do,” Mers said looking down at the data-pad that was on his wrist. He tapped in a few numbers and then spoke, “This is Sergeant Mers, Nightmare Squad is requesting an evac.”

“Copy that Sergeant, were sending a bird down now. ETA ten minutes, LZ is being updated to your HUD’s.” A Ensign said and the com was closed.

A marker came up on all of their HUD’s they were only a few hundred meters away. Shark slammed his foot on the pedal and made a sharp turn, the vehicle sped off and they were now surrounded by buildings. As they zoomed through bullets started to ping off the metal plates protecting them. Leon returned the fire, but with little luck. They were everywhere and only popping in and out letting off rounds.

“Shark I can’t get a solid hit on any of the bastards.” Leon reported as he loaded up a fresh belt.

“Save the ammo then.” Shark said concentrating on the patchy road infront of him. An explosion went off and debris rattled against the armor of the vehicle.

“Shit. Leon you need to get those damn bastards now! If we take a direct hit were gonna be a smoldering ball of twisted metal.” Shark said as he cut a hard left avoiding a cement barricade. Leon turned his gun around and fired back on any movement he saw. They were really close to their LZ now as they turned another corner. Shark began to swerve, but an RPG smashed into the ground right behind them and the force flipped the entire vehicle end over end into a storefront.

Leon was launched further down the street, his armor had taken most of the impact. He got up slowly searching for his weapon. The rest of Nightmare climbed out of the hole they were in. Leon realizing they had to move just pulled his magnum and regrouped with his brothers.
“As far as we know we are surrounded, and evac is less then five minutes away from touching down. We can’t let them touch down for long, the gangs will over-run them.” Shark said looking around. “Over here.” He said walking over the boarded alley way across the street from where they crashed. He stepped back lowered his shoulder and charged forward breaking the wooden boards with easy. “This way.” He said waving his back to the rest of Nightmare and then bringing his rifle level while he looked forward. The alleyway lacked sunlight and had trash littered on both sides. Nightmare kept moving quickly checking around corners where other alley ways met. Their HUD’s said 2:01, 12m. They kept a steady pace, in a single file line. Rifles swinging from left to right and then up. Leon did the same with his magnum. Shark kicked out more boards and they climbed out back into the streets right across from a courtyard. Their HUD’s said :32. As they walked into the courtyard.

“Nightmare this is Echo Charlie. We are seeing a massive ground movement surrounding the LZ. We can pick you up, but you better be ready. We can’t stay grounded for long.” The pilot said.

“Copy that, were here Echo Charlie. Will perform a quick sweep of the LZ, but anything on rooftops we can’t see.” Shark said pointing to, two cement walls in the courtyard. Serge and Leon went left, while Shark and Mers stayed right. Nightmare went to work quickly, all four soldiers sending grenades over the ways they had took cover behind. With the satisfying Boom! of an explosion they all cut around the corners and fired off spurts of rounds at the enemy gang members. The gunfire was returned in uncontrolled salvos that slammed into the walls around them as they dove forward into cover.

“Mers stay put and cover me, I’m going to push the left flank. Serge and Leon keep right.” Shark said rolling out of cover and sweeping his rifle across the narrow walkway he was going to head down. Both sides of the walkway were lined with bushes that went well over his head. He moved forward rifle leveled and his eyes locked infront of him.

Serge and Leon moved forward with Serge up front and Leon following behind him. Serge’s armor took round after round. Finally they stopped and Serge reloaded. Leon kept a steady flow of rounds on the enemy contacts infront of them. As Serge pulled out another belt of rounds a grenade landed right infront of him. As an instinct he scooped it up and lobed it back at the enemy. Boom! He peered out from cover to see it had hit two tangos and both had been blown to bits.

“Leon press forward I’ll cover you.” Serge said as he brought his weapon up aimed and fired watching as his target was knocked back and killed from his shots. Leon tapped Serge on the back and moved up ducking down and only standing slightly to pepper off rounds here and there.

Mers had moved to a better position and was able to see more. He switched his aim from his two targets, both were behind cover with their shoulders showing. He blinked once and fired, blinked again as he brought his scope over to the other target and fired. Both of his targets rolled back in pain as their shoulders had been blown to pieces. He could see them screaming, but couldn’t hear anything over the gunfire. Two more rounds silenced them.

Shark slid behind a wall. He could hear a few enemy soldiers talk and he peered up making sure he was covered a little by a bush in the island he was behind. He saw four men standing and pointing. Shark looked back down at his weapon checking it, he stood up and unleashed a salvo of rounds. The men were cut down and he jumped up onto the island. He saw every enemy soldier behind cover and just started firing. His magazine went dry and he jumped back down to reload. An enemy saw him and stood up to fire, but a round from Mers met him in the back. Leon had pushed up and Serge was reloading again.

“On me.” Shark said, “This is Nightmare the LZ is currently clear.”

“Copy that, Nightmare.” Echo Charlie said and the drop ship roared over the rooftops setting down in the middle of the courtyard. Nightmare quickly jumped on and the back hatch closed.

Earth’s CentCom
HighCom
Classified Meeting

Major Winslow stood before Supreme Commander Hawkins with Arch-Angel standing behind him in crisp and clean dress uniforms. They all stood at attention with their hands cupped behind their backs. Major Winslow held a file in his right hand which was resting at his side.

“At ease. This meeting isn’t to be of proper military fashion.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said. Arch-Angel brought their arms to their side, but still keep their backs straight and their chest pushed out. Their eyes shot down to Supreme Commander Hawkins.

“Supreme Commander, from my understanding you haven’t received this information yet.” Major Winslow said handing over the file. Paper files were kept around only for eyes only information. Anything stored in a data base would could be seen by anyone with a code from HighCom and anyone they felt the need to give the code to. Supreme Commander Hawkins opened the file and flipped through the few pages it contained.

“What exactly am I looking at here?” The Supreme Commander asked re-reading the information in his hands.

“Sir, I retrieved it from the insurgent base before we blew it up. The files were well hidden, but nothing I haven’t seen before. I copied them to my data reservoir knowing that this was urgent information to get to you.” Lt. Shark said.

“Then why haven’t you brought it to my attention sooner?” The Supreme Commander asked with a sudden hint of anger in his voice.

“We thought it wasn’t of any importance, that only the outer colonies would be dealing with it until I read the report on Hybrid.” Major Winslow.

“They reported no, space craft on or in orbit over Hybrid. So how can the two attacks be related?” Supreme Commander Hawkins asked.

“They might not have stationed orbital forces over Hybrid thinking it was safe from an attack. I mean Hybrid is pretty much out away from the rest of the planets. We have it marked as an unknown vector.” Lt. Shark said.

“It doesn’t matter currently, I called this meeting to discuss something far more important . Admiral Jensen has turned over to the Insurgents and took General Baker hostage during an emergency meeting. So I called you here to discuss rescuing General Baker and killing Admiral Jensen. Both men will play a vital role in this war, and if we can I want Jensen dead. He knows all of our strategies and that being said could easily begin winning in space combat. He also knows the location of every single military factory and base. I’m asking for you to pretty much go on a suicide mission, but the pros out weigh the cons. We need Baker alive, and we need Jensen dead. This could be a deciding factor of the war if Jensen lives, but your main objective will be to rescue Baker. Only if you can take out Jensen, do it. Don’t risk Baker’s life if you can’t.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said.

“Understood, sir” The entire Battalion said in unison.

“Very good. You will have the mission briefing when you get back to your quarters I expect you will read them over thoroughly. As for you Major, I want you to stay here. For the rest you are dismissed.” He saluted the men, and they proudly returned it before turned and left. Lieutenant Mers however stayed behind.

“Sir, I have a request. While we were on Anza we sided with a Brotherhood Captain. He explained that the Brotherhood isn’t in full support of the Insurgent cause like we think. That most of the Brotherhood fights for the protection of human rights on individual colonies. So I am asking that once we get back from this mission to take another trip to Anza to confirm his safety and allow him to explain the Brotherhood’s causes to HighCom. Captain Brecart the leader of the Brotherhood was more focused on killing the infection then any ASF forces that were dropped along with us.” Lt. Shark said.

“Hmmm. I’ve always wondered about the Brotherhood they never fought unless provoked, and with them having ties to the Insurgency I just presumed they were on the same side. Either way, yes. I will allow you to speak to HighCom. The more allies we get the better.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said and with that Shark turned and left.

“Yes, sir?” Major Winslow said looking at Supreme Commander Hawkins in confusion.

“Major I want you to begin training more soldiers to put into Arch-Angel. I want a wider selection of soldiers this time I want to be able to call it a full battalion and not a small platoon. So any requests you have I’ll put through. One more thing. I want to hand over a top-secret program to your use called the Guardian Program. It’s a suit of armor far more advanced then anything any other types of military soldiers have. It’s still in its developing stages, but it looks to be promising and if the armor gets put in the hands of your soldiers I think it will change this war to one side.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said handing over another file to Winslow. He flipped through the pages stopping at certain reports and skimming and finally stopping at a picture of the armor. It looked like his men could even customize it to fit their criteria.

“Thank you, sir. When will this be available to my men?” Winslow asked.

“Sadly not until after the rescue of Baker. He has the codes, and only if his death is confirmed will I be able to take over the program. The codes are the only way to get to the data to rebuild the armor.” Supreme Commander Hawkins said. Major Winslow nodded once before saluting and turning to head out of the chamber.

Trailing “Black Fox” Shadow Class Cruiser
Arch-Angel Battalion

Six drop ships were approaching the rear of the “Black Fox”. Five of which had all of Arch-Angel and the sixth held Maj. Winslow. He was going to be leading the op, hacking anything that his soldiers needed if it was necessary. The drop ships were cloaked and were open to space.

“Listen up. This is how things are gonna go down. Ghost and Fear you guys will be flown around back to the engines. I want you to board the craft and EMP the engines we need to cripple their movement. Reaper and Hellfire you will be heading to the bridge and assassinating Jensen. We have a set route for you to follow. Jensen might have switched sides, but we still know his ship inside and out. Nightmare as the rest of Arch-Angel performs their tasks you will slipping into the cell block deck of the ship and securing General Baker. Remember we need him alive and well.” Major Winslow said.

“Yes, sir!” Washed over Major Winslow’s com channel. He sighed while he looked at all of the vitals of his soldiers, his kids. He knew he was sending them to their own deaths. It doesn’t matter the training they had, Jensen’s crew was known to be the best of the best. Jensen himself had made sure of that, he had recruited the best Spec-Ops teams along with decorated pilots for the few Squadrons of fighters he had stationed in his ship.

“ETA five minutes until all drop ships are in position to begin the Op.” Winslow said as he tapped a few things in on his computer. Blueprints of the entire ship were pulled up. He tapped in another set out codes and watched as the screen was filled with thermal images on every single man and woman on board the ship.

“It looks like most of the soldiers on-board are sleeping. Ghost and Fear I want you to wait until I give the order to EMP the engines. If we can go in nice and silent that would be far better then making noise.” Major Winslow said and got green lights signifying they understood.

Everyone was ready as the drop ships pulled up to the sleek cruiser. Ghost and Fear were first to be dropped off. Next came Hellfire and Reaper they landed near a known weak point of all Shadow Class Cruisers. They would be able to use laser to slice through the thin armor plates. Nightmare was dropped on a maintenance hatch that they would open with codes that were given to them in hopes they worked. Jensen might have changed the codes and transmitter signal, but the access codes were sent to HighCom as a safety precaution that Jensen had no clue about.

Ghost and Fear were dropped off, they landed smoothly and their drop ship peeled off. Hellfire and Reaper landed the exact same. Finally came Nightmare. All of them had magnetic soles that allowed them to stay on the ship with out being launched into space.

Lt. Shark pointed down and his men nodded. They all jumped and with small thruster packs were launched towards the cruiser. They landed taking the light impact and moving towards the hatch that they were entering by.

“This is Young we will be inside and setting up the charges in less then 2 minutes.” The Lieutenant reported.

“Ghost and Fear be careful, switch to suppressed weapons I’ve got two thermal’s inside of the room that the engines power supply is. Take them out and set the charges.” Winslow said.

“Copy that.” Was Lt. Young’s reply as they entered the craft and sealed their entrance.

“Were in.”

“Were cutting into the hull right now.” Lt. Newland said as he turned on the laser and watched as it slowly burned through the plates of armor that covered the hull.

“Were on too, I’m typing in the codes now.” Shark said as he tapped in a 16 digit code and the hatch pressurized before it opened. All of Nightmare dropped in and they closed it. The ship’s artificial gravity felt weird compared to space they they were just in for hours.

“Alright Nightmare follow the red colored lights and don’t switch over to any other colored lights. The red lights will end at a door that leads into the cell block that General Baker is currently in.”

“Copy that Dad.” Shark said and pointed forward. Nightmare leveled their weapons and moved forward.

“And we are in.” Lt. Newland said as he removed the sheet of metal and watched as the air from the room was sucked into space, Reaper and Hellfire were quick to get into the ship and place the sheet of metal back and wielded it back into place. The room stabilized and oxygen filled it once again.

“I’m reading reports from the bridge right now and it looks like they think it was just a bug, but they are sending a patrol to your area to check it out. I’d advise you to not engage until completely necessary.” Winslow said.
“Copy that, we won’t engage.” Lt. Newland said.

“Good their is a small control room that you can hide in, they won’t be to worried. The reason why the armor is thin in that area is because directly below you is the ship’s power core, and when the ship switches into combat mode the rooms like the one you are currently in are fill with coolant that allows the ship to travel very, very quickly and not melt the core down in the process. The coolant of course flushes quickly into the core, and then back into the rooms to release the heat into space. It isn’t standard for cruisers and battleships because Shadow Class ships aren’t designed for battle. If anything hit and run missions, but only on small scales.” Winslow said.

Hellfire and Reaper moved into the small control room, from there they saw dozens of switches and at least 50 buttons some were lit green, red, or blue while others weren’t any color at all.

“Don’t touch anything if you do this entire mission will have to be scrapped.” Winslow said.

“This is Kenzel the charges are in place we are just waiting for the go ahead.” Lt. Kenzel said as he kicked one of the guards he had just killed.

“Copy that Kenzel, awaiting Shark’s signal.”

Nightmare moved to the end of the tunnel, a door was at the end. Shark pulled out his knife and slowly opened the hatch. He saw one guard as he was walking away and decided to let him go.

“Clear.” He said as he moved across the corridor, with the rest of Nightmare following very closely. They moved silently as they came to an intersected corridor, weapons leveled sweeping both directions the corridor went across.

“Nightmare you want Cell 65.” Winslow said. Nightmare continued a few more steps and stopped.

“This is it, repeat we are at our target.” Lt. Shark said as he attached two charges to the door, one at each hinge.

“Shark you can’t take any maintenance tunnels to the hanger, so you will have to fight through the ship’s guards.” Winslow said.

“We are set up above the bridge and we are clear to go on the signal.” Lt. Newland said.

“Copy that Newland. Shark your green.” Winslow said.
“Copy that.” He said pushing the detonator. Two small explosions blew away the hinges and Serge ripped the door out of place.

“General Baker?” Shark asked stepping into the dark cell.

“On my mark Justin I want you and Howard to rush in and clear the bridge expect for Jensen. The rest of us will pick off any guards you can get to. 3....2....1....mark.” Cpl. Justin Crystal and Pvt. Howard Webers opened the doors leading to the bridge and open fired. Their bullets smacked into the unprepared bodies of the young naval officers and pelted the consoles they were working at. Jensen turned as two of his guards on the bridge charged towards Justin and Howard, Reaper and Hellfire stopped them dead with shot bursts. In a matter of seconds the carnage was over and Jensen was standing by his chair that looked out into space.

“I didn’t expect them to find me so fast, but you did. I’m just curious as to how you entered my ship? Oh well it doesn’t matter I didn’t think my performing treason would go over well with the ASF. Anyways I’ll let you take me with.....” Lt. Wells smashed a heavy fist into Jensen’s face.

“Shut the fuck up, you bastard.” He spat as he stood over the now terrified officer.

“ASF’s policy strictly states they are to take prisoners of war when one surrenders.” Jensen said holding his nose to try and stop the bleeding.

“Well we aren’t ASF.” Sgt. Grant laughed.

“Whose gonna take the shot?” Sgt. Michaels said.

“Wait! You don’t have to do this. I can give you anything, the outer colony insurgents pay very high for trained assassins.” Jensen said.

“We don’t need money.” Lt. Newland said aiming his rifle and Jensen and firing two rounds one in the stomach and one in the head.

“Jensen has been neutralized, repeat Jensen is a confirmed KIA.” Lt. Newland.

“Good head on back and we will pick you up.” Winslow said tapping on his screen to bring up any security traffic from the cruiser. His entire screen went from slow com chatter from patrols to the entire the entire being filled and flashing red.

“Hellfire and Reaper you need to bail now I’ve at least 40 of the ship’s guards being called to the bridge. Jensen must have tripped an alarm.” Winslow almost screamed.

“Copy that.” Newland said, but as they all turned to leave they found themselves looking down the barrels of 20 rifles.

“Shit.” Those were the words that left Newlands mouth as he watched as a Captain pushed through the ranks.

“You are under arrest.” He said as his eyes caught the dead Admiral Jensen. He looked up towards Newland who still had his assault rifle out.

“Kill them.” The Captain said, but Sgt. Michaels was to quick. She dove forward and thrusted her shotgun barrel into the Captain’s stomach and fired. Gore flew from his back and the 20 soldiers open fired. Reaper returned fire as Hellfire grabbed cover. Twenty more soldiers came into the room. Sgt. Micheals pumped two more shells out taking down a soldier for each one. As she did she watched as Pvt. Wattson’s vital dropped, she glanced back to see him laying on the ground slowly crawling back into cover as two more shots hit his neck and he dropped along with his vitals.

“No!” Michaels screamed and hey eyes darted to where the shots came from. She swam a guard charging at her and kicked back blowing out his knee. She tackled the guard who killed Wattson and shoved her blade into his chest. As she got up she dove behind a console as gun-fire soaked it and she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. Cpl. Gates’s vitals dropped next.

“Jenn can you get an angle on those bastards!” Newland barked.

“Ya.” She said as she fought the sting as she stood up with her side arm leveled and fired the heavy rounds off one after another, then she got hit and everything went black.

“Ghost and Fear blow those engines and bail. Is that understood?” Winslow said as he watched Jenn’s vitals hit near fatal. Hellfire was wiped and so was Reaper. She was the only one left on the bridge and Winslow’s guess was that she wasn’t noticed.

“We are inbound to the hanger to pull the General out. Ghost and Fear we need a sitrep on your position.” Shark said as he swept his rifle across the corridor and then moved forward. They were close to the hanger and had already been engaged multiple times. He had been hit in the chest, the round had cracked the plate and maybe broke one of his ribs. He couldn’t tell though, his adrenaline was pulsing and all he could think about was getting the hell off of the ship. Serge held the General up with an arm over Serge’s shoulder, they were moving slower then they wanted because the General had been drugged and wasn’t all together.

“About that sitrep Shark. We are currently moving to the hanger, just got out of a quick fire-fight. No one is wounded. ETA ten minutes.” Lt. Young said.

“Nightmare listen up you are closest to the bridge and Jen got hit. Her vitals are low, but are stabilized. I need one of you to go dig her out.” Winslow said.

“I’ll go. Ghost and Fear should be reinforcing you guys soon. Just make sure you bastards don’t leave without me.” Mers said as they all stopped.

“We’d go down with the ship before we allowed that to happen.” Shark said as him and Mers did a quick brotherly embrace and Mers broke off down a different corridor. He moved quickly, Jen’s vitals were brought up on his HUD along with a nav marker. He turned a corner and hit the deck as five guards opened up on him. The bullets whizzed over his head and he fired. His bullets ripping through the chins and boots of the soldiers. Down they all went screaming. He stepped over them tossing a grenade back as he left the corridor. He was still 60 meters away and closing. Her vitals spiked really quickly and then dropped again. He began to sprint now and the second he turned into the corridor that connected to the main corridor that lead into the bridge he cut the guards down before they could react. He continued over them and into the main corridor. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw at least 20 guards with their weapons pointed directly at him. His first instinct was to dive back behind the corner that he just rounded. Bullets pelleted off of the wall and he heard orders being barked.

Mers reloaded his rifle and waited. He heard footsteps, from the sound only four. He smiled as he clipped his rifle on his back and slowly pulled out his knife and his side-arm. As the guards rounded the corner Mers lunged forward embedding his knife into one of the men’s chest. He reeled back firing his side-arm. The rounds spilled blood from their stomachs as they all went down. He switched to thermal visor and tossed a smoke grenade into the corridor. As he moved into the thick cloud he ripped his knife out of the man’s chest and continued forward. He saw at least 15 guards a head of him all of looked like they were scared shitless. He grabbed one by the barrel of the gun and put his blade into his neck. Gun-fire broke out causing Mers to roll to the side and put his knife into a man’s spine. He came up holding two throwing knives whipping both into the visors of two more men. Gun-fire swept his way as they saw which way the blades came from. Two more knives flew from the smoke and into the guards. ‘Five down ten to go’ he said mentally. The smoke began to clear and he realized that he couldn’t wait to screw around any more. His team needed him back to leave and Jen’s vitals spiked again. He unclipped his assault rifle and cut the rest down.

Mers moved into the bridge and just stared at the destruction. Bullets had hit the glass, but of course it was bullet proof. Sparks shot from destroyed consoles and blood soaked the place. He went over to check on Jen. She had propped herself against the console she was behind with her helmet off and seemed to be looking for something on her armor.

“C’mon.” Mers said helping her up as she slowly looked up towards him. She had been trying to repair her wounds with bandages, and wasn’t doing a good job.

“Hold on.” She said grunting as she stood up and walked over to the remains of Reaper and Hellfire. She knelt besides each soldier and grabbed their dog tags. As she walked back Mers could see her tears streaking down her face. Mers followed closely behind her.

“Mers we have the hanger cleared, but we can’t hold out forever were running low on ammo. Hurry your ass up.” Shark barked.

“We have to go.” Mers said putting his hand on Jen’s shoulder, and as she turned handing her helmet to her. He had been struck by the loss himself. Arch-Angel was a family. Though they hadn’t spent time together since they left training, he still loved each of his brothers and sisters.

They had a straight shot to the hanger from the main corridor, the only reason why Mers couldn’t have taken it was because he would have gone through the hanger which was filled with guards. Mers and Jenn hurried down the corridor.

“Were on our way, ETA one minute and thirty seconds.” Mers reported back to Shark. They got to the door leading into the hanger and it was sealed shut.

“Damn. Alright hold on.” Mers said pulling out his final two hinge charges. He slid them in-between the center crease where the two doors latched.

“Get back.” He said stepping back and pulling a detonator out. Jen listened and they stepped back a few feet.

“Shark get the drop-ship rolling me and Jen will be in a second.” Mers said.

“Copy that we are moving, you better hurry your ass up.” Shark said, and as he finished up Mers clicked the detonator. The center of the door exploded and sent shrapnel flying everywhere, the two were on the move already though. Guards were firing at the drop ship, but Arch-Angel was returning fire alot more accurately. However the drop ship was already moving towards the entrance to the hanger. Mers sped up and realized Jen couldn’t move very fast. He threw her over his shoulder and began sprinting. He got right behind the drop ship and threw Jen on-board, but that slowed him down. The drop ship itself was speeding up and he knew he couldn’t make it. So he sealed his suit and hoped for the best as the drop ship left the hanger and went into space Mers launched himself into space and sailed towards the drop ship. It was to quick however and it got away.

“Leave without me, you need to blow this ship before they can target you guys.” Mers said.

“Damnit Mers...... Detonate it.” Shark sighed over the com. Mers braced himself for the explosion just as Winslow’s drop ship pulled into his view, and positioned itself to intercept Mers.
“You didn’t think I could let anymore of my soldiers die did you?” Mers could see Winslow smiling through his clear visor as he landed inside of the drop ship and the ship they had just left turning into a tiny speck until it exploded.

“This is Mers, Winslow picked me up.” Mers reported to Shark.

“Good, I couldn’t stand to lose another one of my brothers.” Shark said.

“I’ll send a transmission to HighCom saying we retrieved General Baker. I just hope his Guardian Program is worth it.” Winslow said as he sealed and pressurized the drop ship and the two removed their helmets.
