Hello dear friends of the Forerunner Conflict, I need your opinion and some help.

I currently am in the process of looking for a gaming headset for my Xbox 360 (being compatible with PC is a plus) to use when I go to the University of Michigan in the Fall. My current standard-issue headset is currently soldered back together after I dropped my controller and I doubt it will last a long while.

My price range is anywhere up to ~$200 and I have no preference to Wired/Wireless (however I have heard issues with Wi-Fi interference making them practically inoperable - is there any credence to that?).

After doing some basic research, I have selected a few headsets that could meet my needs. If you have your own headsets you like/prefer or have any opinions on the ones I am about to list, please let me know! Thanks!

Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 (http://www.amazon.com/Force-Gaming-Headset-Amplified-Stereo-Pc/dp/B005DQG0BO/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1338066280&sr=1-1) - Basically a stupid cheap wired headset if all else fails; $50.50
Tritton AX 720 (http://www.amazon.com/Surround-Xbox-360-PC-Playstation-3/dp/B002ZS6Y64/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1338066280&sr=1-5) - A mid-range surround sound wired headset; $129.99
Sharkoon X-Tatic (http://www.amazon.com/Sharkoon-X-Tatic-Surround-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B003H4QIC0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) - A mid-range surround sound wired headset (similar to Tritton's, but has four speakers per ear and each is customizable in volume); $139.96
Turtle Beach Ear Force XP400 (http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Surround-Headset-Xbox-360-6304300/dp/B006W41W4Q/ref=pd_sim_vg_1) - An upper-end surround sound wireless headset that is 'splurge-worthy'; $169.99

If you can offer me your own opinions and suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

I currently use the Astro A40s. They are really good, top of the market gaming headsets.

However, I would recommend the Tritons. You get alot of quality for the price.

More OcR peeps have switched from Turtle Beaches to either A40's or Tritons.

So I would assume if money was no object you would recommend the Astros then? I plan on getting some graduation money from my party so I would technically have more money to spend. Haha.

The wired Turtles sound like shit on the computer so I would just go with the Tritons

^ This.

I have the Astro A40's as well: magnificent. I have 4 twenty inch Sony speakers surrounding my T.V. and when I put on my Astro's I get the same sounding quality.

If your looking to save I got mine off E-bay and they work perfectly. Generally people sell them for 20-50 dollars less on there. Don't forget the new Mixamp. If you can get wireless Im finding the cords are ridiculous. USB for power to save on Battery money. Which is awesome because I can hear my laptop as well as my Xbox with the included High Def TOS link in the mixamp. Controller cord, cords to the mixamp from headset ect: I do music production for my minor the specs are good as well as far as sound quality. Sometimes people cant tell the difference. But as far as comfort and whats inside they are great.

Yadda yadda I can give more info if you want lol.

I'd go with the X12's they are cheap and they are good.

I've had top of the line headsets on at buddies houses, and I've never noticed a massive change.

I've had my x12's for a year and I still love them.

The Tritton Detonator's are a good option that are not too expensive, they are better quality than the top of the line turtle beach's and they look really good aesthetically. http://trittonusa.com/prod/detonator.asp

If you want to get the top of the line though, go with Astro A40's.

Thanks for the help, gents!

And as if Amazon knew I was going to buy a headset soon, they dropped the price of the Turtle Beach XP400's from $220 to $170. Haha. However people say these broadcast your voice as if it is being projected through a tin can. Others say it doesn't. Ahh! Everything else about this headset is awesome except that - and that is potentially a deal breaker. :(

I just wish these headsets would consistently be awesome or consistently suck. There are so many opinions either way.

Any other opinions?

Well if you've had turtle beaches before i would stick with them because over my xbox years i have had many turtle beaches and a astro headset.

Astro = More expensive then most turtle beaches out there. But if your not going to do some serious gaming then i would suggest not to spend all of your money on them unless your getting a good deal of some sort. Yes they have extremely high quality but if your not going to tournaments and things like that. Then i find them useless.

I had them before when i went to tournaments then after i loss some skill. I sold them because they weren't necessary for what i was doing so i sold them for a good price. Then i bought another pair of turtle beaches.

Ps. Im only talking about the A40's.

Pss. Im not going to go on about the a30s because ive had friends that had alot issues with them.

Turtle beach = A decent price for a good headset. It all depends on what your looking for the x12's are a cheap pair and work well i have had them for around 8 months now and had no issues but i tend not to have issues with turtle beaches, but many people do. There are also some other headsets that would serve you well for the price.

http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/call-of-duty-headsets/mw3-ear-force-charlie.aspx ( You may not like the COD Stickers but the headset itself is very good.)

Tritans = ? I have used many headsets the tritans look nice but for a person that has used turtle beaches his entire life the tritans just feel weird and i personally couldn't get used to them. But for the specs there actually a good headset.

If you want a astro personally i would suggest http://www.astrogaming.com/headsets/a40-headsets/a40-headset-mlg-edition

Also @Max i wouldn't but turtle beaches for $200 i would suggest getting the a40's. Also the XP400 arent compatible with the PC as it says on there website.

Thanks for the info, Devon. I'm leaning towards the XP400's as they are on sale for $169.99 and they CAN work on most new laptops that have Bluetooth integrated inside of them as the XP400 uses Bluetooth to communicate with the controller and receiver/decoder.

Does anyone have any opinions on Wireless vs. Wired or the XP400's or anything? haha.
