I have had some pretty annoying vertigo lately. It's bad enough that I may not be at school until the end of the year if it doesn't go away. It is now unsafe for me to be at school, because I can't walk in a straight line. I keep stumbling, and almost falling. Thankfully, I haven't fallen yet, however, it's sure to come sooner or later. I'll be caught in one of my many many dizzy spells, without a nearby handhold, and then I'll be on the ground. I have been diagnosed with BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some remedies to cure this vertigo.

Doctor said it could be related to the deafness in my genes, because balance is caused by the inner ear. If that's true, I could be stuck like this my entire life. That could make it a little hard to do everyday stuff... I'll be going to a neurologist in a couple weeks to see what they think could be wrong with me. Best thing I can do seems to be waiting it out and seeing if I can get rid of this over time.

Vertigo is often caused by crystallization in the ear, which screws up the liquid in your ears, which makes it so you can't stay up right. However, this is very uncommon for someone of my age. It is much more common in elderly people. It's not unheard of for someone my age to have that, but it's still not likely. The doctor I went to yesterday says he honestly thinks it's related to my father's and uncle's deafness. I probably won't become deaf because of this, but, who knows what will happen. I hope to figure out what's wrong with me once and for all.

Once again, if anyone could give me a suggestion on remedies to deal with vertigo, please post it!

lay down on the side of your head that everything seems to be spinning towards...
Also keep cold air flowing in front of your face...
If you do these two things it will subside..trust me I have dealt with this as well, but it runs in my family because my mom, aunt uncle, and cousin all have it. All triggered by different things.

If you have valium a doctor prescribed it to my mom for it but I dont like using meds for that stuff.

Hope it helps....

No medicine seems to do anything to me any more :P But, would that really work? just laying down, and having cold air in my face? I've never heard of that. How does this help?

by keeping your head stationary eyes closed it helps you focus yourself without looking around because you dont need to rely on your vision to orient yourself but your sense of touch...it eases the vertigo feeling...and the cold air helps because it gets more air flow to your brain or at least thats what I find when I get it...

Ok, I shall try that. I don't think it will make it go away permanently, but any relief will help

Vertigo can often be caused by crystallization in the ear, and there is a certain positioning thing you can do, that can get rid of that. If you look up BPPV, you could find it. I don't know you, or your family members have tried this or not, but it wouldn't hurt

I've heard avoiding sleeping on your side with the ear causing the problem facing downwards helps a bit.
