THE STANLEY CUP FINALS HAVE STARTED (actually Game 1 is in Overtime right now) BETWEEN THE LOS ANGELES KINGS AND THE NEW JERSEY DEVILS! The LA Kings barely made the playoffs as the 8th seed and have been the Dark Horse of the playoffs, they beat the best team in the league (Vancouver) in 5 games, swept the 2nd best team (St Louis Blues), and knocked off the Phoenix Coyotes in 6 games to go to their first Final since 1993. The Kings have NEVER won a cup since joining the league in the 70s. They have rode the back of American superstar goalie Jonathan Quick all the way to the Finals.
The New Jersey Devils have had an underdog story as well. This is their 5th appearance in the SFC, and they have won 3 Stanley Cups out of the previous 4 times they visited, in thanks mainly to legendary goaltender Marty Brodeur, who turned 40 just a few months ago. New Jersey went to 7 games against the Florida Panthers in the 1st round, beat the Filthadelphia Flyers in 5 in the 2nd round, and ended the top seeded New York Rangers hopes in 6 games to advance to the Finals.
Both teams have American Captains. Dustin Brown for LA, and Zach Parise (he scored the game-tying goal with a minute left against the Canadians in the 2010 Olympic Gold Medal Game). This series will be all defense and stellar goaltending.
I'm pulling REAL hard for the Kings to win. They are one of my favorite teams, and I'd love to see Dustin Brown and Jon Quick lift the Cup. NJ has won their fair share of Cups (3 in the past 17 years). It's the Kings time to shine, plus it would make for the best underdog story! Kings in 6!
GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!
Who do you want to win?
