A Small Concern.

This is mostly directed at the members who actually spend time on this site reading the different subforums.

I'm seeing a downhill trend here, guys. There is little-to-no fiber in Open Conversation any more, and not much being posted elsewhere. Day after day its just a random-ass, bland, pointless topic in The Spambox. I completely understand its purpose (Do I agree with its purpose? No.) and I get why it may be useful at times, but that's basically the only thing to read/comment on any more.

Back in the day, - actually no, not back in the day. Months ago even, you could look back and there were some quality topics being discussed in Open Conversation. Ranging from political/moral opinions or beliefs and current events to fun trips that people went on and discussions about other interesting aspects of life.

The GFX community had three or four new things in Show Off every day for people to view and comment on. People even knew how to post videos in the appropriate section. Imagine that!




Without trying to get into a rant, I'll just say that I'd like to see some more quality topics get posted. Some meat on these bones. Because I feel like I'm digging through a carcass looking for something interesting. Random moronic topics are only funny every so often; not when it's the same group of kids who post the same kind of shit over and over again (not naming any names, but you should have an idea).


Give me something to read. Start an interesting blog. Make me WANT to spend my time here, as opposed to me feeling obligated to because of my history.

Have you seen my "Interesting Facts About Dolphins" thread yet Eri?:clown: But in all seriousness, I do agree with you... Lately the forums have been, well, slow and boring. It would be nice of it to pick up the pace and become something more interesting though. I loved the forums when I first joined and I still do, but I sit here on the site refreshing about every 10 minutes or after reading a post expecting something new and interesting to slap me in the face... and that just doesn't happen. Still love FC and the forums... just want more pizazz and interesting stuff to keep my coming back. I completely agree with you in that the forums do need a bit of a boost... Just one thing though... How do we do it?

I'd love to just pull founder and remove it, perhaps i should. SPAM is considered disrespectful for our community in the first place, so why do we have a forum committed too it!?

I don't think the Spambox is the root of all evil, here.

The threats with sustenance still wouldn't be in existence. People aren't not-posting good threads because there's a spam forum.

EDIT: Even with the chatbox we used to have (Which was removed because of bandwith issues) we still had an active forum.
It's just a part of the trend.

I can help voice act if need be. I don't know why people didn't turn in their voice over stuff. I'm sure if you ask around on the forums you can get voice actors.

Yeah there's actually pretty good activity considering this is the last war on Reach.

In the last war in H3 it was straight up dead and some battles were forfeited.
That time period was also the LMG clusterfuck/political revolution.

Thats why I've stopped posting for the most part. Rarely do I see a good topic thats worth talking in.

With the birth of meme base, damnLOL, and other sites the internet has opened up to a more temporary type of stupid conversation and line of inside jokes.

I think its what all teenagers and college kids are told is cool and funny. Also what they believe is cool and funny.

Its not wrong for people to like random topics and funny things. And it certainly is in no way 'disrespectful' to want to share them. In fact in sharing these funny things the community can grow closer.

BUT we have to remember that this is not a spam forum. There is a lot more to the community. In forgetting what our purpose is leads us to conversations like this.

I would like to see more in depth topics - but without sacrificing something important to the majority of our member base.

Having a Spam box is actually a good thing. Before I'd see topics get closed that I didn't believe should have been. Granted there is a LOT of dumb shit that pops up in ther, and I rarely feel the need/want to post in them. But it let's people post whatever crap they want. Try to think of it as FC's recycle bin.

"That being said" I would definately love to see more thoughtful & meaningful topics that last more than 2-3 pages before dying out.

I understand what everyone is saying I do. But it is nice to go on a forum and not always have to deal with serious business. It is nice to joke around and have fun with one another. I mean do what you guys gotta do. I mean people will post random stuff but given them a place to do it makes it feel a lot less like spam. I also wanted to add to the whole "more mature" comments I am seeing. There is a difference between being immature because one IS immature...and being immature for fun. I am 26 years old. I have a job in the medical field which requires me to act accordingly. We have fun and act "immature" sometimes at work but it's just to have FUN. If someone is being immature in a obviously not having fun manner then that is waaaay different. I like to have fun and be immature more so while I am still old enough to be that way. I can be mature when the time calls for it but for the most part I would rather be having fun...making people laugh...then being super serious all the time. Where is the fun in that?

And i never noticed people have posted on my Weekly Update in Archangel till about 2 hours ago.

Sure some of the stuff in "Spambox" is funny, however we dont need a new post in it every 5minutes or a post for everything that pops in someones mind (not directed to anyone, im sure some will take it as that, but its not at you... trust me).

I enjoy a good laugh here and there, however most people that are on this website are usually officers or higher and we have certin things we need to look for. Spambox threads aren't one of them.

I say keep it, however have the spambox used for only SPAM not just random stuff from our members. Spam is posts from "un-wanted members" (account made to make a spam post). Just lock the subforum so that moderators are the only ones that can do anything in there. You never know, some of the SPAM can actually be useful to a member one day.

Spambox threads will no longer appear in search results. This should prevent them from clogging up or overshadowing other, important results.

Conversely, it now appears as a top-level forum instead of being nested in Open Conversation.

Hopefully that relieves the issue a bit.
