It has not been "confirmed", however it has been hinted and mentioned.
Last week we have all heard about the 720's kit that was released (was attempted to be sold at $10,000... have no idea if it was bought or not) however Microsoft hasnt said anything about it.
They still havent mentioned that kit yet, however a "new xbox" was said by Microsofts General Manager

I think X or XB with a 900/1080 or something would be better name than XBOX 720. It makes it seem like its only twice as good, which isn't much IMO. X1080 is best, makes it seem like its THREE TIMES better than the 360.

I think the kit showed it would be 6x stronger then 360... maybe XBOX 2160 >.<

I find it amusing that this topic about the Xbox 720 is in the Xbox 360 sub-forum. xD

If you navigated a bit futher into the website you would see one of the suggestions they made, Xbox Infinite (or Xbox Infinity).
Of course it will have it's limitations, but think about it, when it stacks up to the PS4, which one sounds cooler, Play Station 4 or Xbox Infinite? Right from the beginning it sounds more promising. Then, with Halo 4 featuring the UNSC Infinity, I think the name would only be fitting for the series that basically carried the xbox on its back.

Infinity (Infinite) would be hard to do. Comcast holds the name Infinity on a product. If microsoft gets a bigger contract with Comcast, i can see it... I think that would be a bad ass name

Comcast is Xfinity haha. I don't think they have labeled infinity on anything.
