With a bang!

Oops, sorry about being so late with these episodes guys, I completely forgot about this thread . . . again, but I'll try and remember from here on out haha.

EDIT: Due to the fact of massive loading times and waiting for a page to respond for five minutes, I'm turning all of those embedded vids into links.

I was just going to post this in my previous thread but I wanted to start this off fresh. This thread is going to be me, basically giving every scrap of info I can about the Halo 4 Forward Unto Dawn series. First off, a bit of background, FuD (Forward Unto Dawn) Occurs around the same time as the beginning of the Human-Covenant War (The Master Chief is around 14-15 years old). It follows Thomas Lasky during his stay at the Corbulo (fixed) Academy of Military Science (CAMS), and will eventually become a Commander aboard he UNSC Infinity. There will be five episodes, each being 15 minutes long, although that only adds up to 75 minutes, Franky said on NeoGaf that the entire series will reach about 90 minutes (although this may include directors cuts on the digital version for LE owners).

My previous thread had the first full FuD trailer, and here is a link to that if you haven't seen it: http://fcwars.net/forums/showthread.php?6949-Full-Forward-Unto-Dawn-quot-trailer-quot

Here is another video, recently released:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w13bLncPkPM&feature=related

Interview with Stewart Hendler Director of FuD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-JkZPPyAWA&list=ELNrl45EfszdQ&feature=plcp

Interview with the actor who plays April (A CO) in FuD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExQcCibtji4&feature=g-vrec

Interview with Tom Green, actor who plays Thomas Lasky:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZHvDfNZe6o&feature=context-shows&list=SL

So as of the above video, I'm sure most of you heard what they had said, but the first video in this post is one of six that is going to be posted before the Oct. 5th premier, you can be sure that I'll be ready for them (and hopefully they'll be better than the first).

Behind the scenes of a few cuts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQM4ytLkFt4&feature=related

Haha, with that video I had to go to 1080p because I couldn't see the dude playing Master Chief connected to anything when he jumped, but that was at least a 15-20 foot drop, and he landed like it was nothing. But when I went to HD I spotted the cable.

Another short episode, this time it's named "Cryo":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zweTCYuf3nw&feature=g-all-u (Youtube Link)

Halo Afterdawn Episode for 'Cryo':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jHclMt97Qw&feature=relmfu

No, that Kat is not Kat from Reach, reason: In Reach, Kat was 22, and the series takes place too far back for her to even be alive yet, much less blonde and hot.

More FUD! Another 'action packed' (or not) to show off, video is Capture the Flag:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THiee1u5QIE

To be honest, I want to see some real action . . .

Another feature, this time named Joyride, this one was actually pretty cool, I have to admit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annot ation_419784&feature=iv&src_vid=G5IEiHdTv7E&v=jlCsxzJ5e2U

After Dawn episode of 'Joyride': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5IEiHdTv7E&feature=g-all-u

Another feature, named 'Lecture': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNRzUwa3VQU&feature=g-all-u

After Dawn episode of 'Lecture': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFHdC-Pk5bQ&feature=g-all-u

Feature, Squad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6rPEXGuqzM&feature=g-all-u

After Dawn Episode of 'Squad': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k6qUX0JgKU&feature=context-gfa

The first episode will air Oct. 5th, and can be watched on Halo Waypoint or Machinima Prime. I will update this thread with any news I might hear, and will post episodes (when episodes start coming out) on this thread.

In the Haloverse I think they are accurate up to 300m or so, in game and in canon rifles are different since you have to balance the game haha.

Yeah, that would be awesome... Hmm.. It would be cool if we had stun rounds too. Although, I don't know how well they would work against a SPARTAN IV's Shielding system...

Alright. Ok.

First of all I have a wicked hate on for the main character, I hold no positive feelings towards him. Secondly; teen romance is fucking gay. Thirdly the covenant were pretty cool and well done but cliche as fuck.

And this is just a personal opinion but I really dont get the big deal with OSTD's. The game honestly did them no justice when attempting to make them all "Im a Spartan but im not a Spartan". Lastly I find it hard to believe that these kids are traning to be marines.

Overall I enjoyed the time it used up. Kept me entertained while I waited for something.

Yeah the size of these actors is killing it for me. They are suppose to be what? 14/15 years old? Well at 14/15 Yeats old you would think teens who have been training to become marines would be much bigger. Hell at that age I had arms bigger then their legs and legs the size of their torsos. That was just from weights lifting for football. These guys are training to be marines so they should being going to hell and back.

Lasky is the biggest issue to me in this whole thing. I understand what they are going for but what it's coming off to me is he's a whinny little bitch. He looks like a little boy instead of a teen or a younger man. The rest of the actors have some meat on them but he's a stick! Maybe he will do better in the later episodes but right now I think his performance is mediocre at best

Rokkman X
10-19-2012, 05:19 PM
The big issue is that this is supposed to be some sort of officer's academy, Officers don't participate in combat. Especially children of the brass.

If you look up Halo: After Dawn on YouTube you will know everything about why people were casted and what positions they are being trained for.

If you're too lazy to do that, the smaller humans were picked so that when MC showed up he would look that much larger. Daniel Cudmore (the guy that is playing Chief) is tall (6' 7"), but he isn't as tall as John-117 would be (7' 2" in MJOLNIR). Frankie and everyone wanted to emphasize how monstrous the Chief was, so they picked shorter actors.

If you want to complain about the physicality of the actors, attribute that to those kids being the kids of UNSC Brass, so that they were always protected and we heavily involved in schooling. Tom Green was picked for the role of Thomas Lasky because he was not necessarily built well - which compounds upon what the others see as a "weakness" when he talks about the Innies in the first two episodes.

Also, the following link will take you to a full of explanation of the Corbulo Academy of Military Science (http://www.halopedia.org/Corbulo_Academy_of_Milita ry_Science). CAMS was not an ODST school. It was an officer school for students of the brass.

Based off what I could find through google the actor for Kelly is Jenna Berman. She is a model and she is 5'8 which is 4 inches taller then the average for American women. Fred is played by Tony Girous who is also a model and is 6 foot. Average height for males in the US is about 5'8/5'9. So they are both taller then the average person and both are in incredible shape. My guess is we are going to see some of the training the Chief and other Spartans went through but I doubt there will be more then just the Chief in action. Ether way I can't wait to see it.

What I love is there are more or less actual actors in this. Like Mike Dopud, he's a character actor from like, everything. He's in Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Stargate, and probably a bunch of other shows that I've forgotten. Mike Dopud automatically makes any show legitimate. Popplewell is from Narnia, and Osric Chau is from Supernatural. And Laskys' mom is someone, I think she plays a rebel leader in some show. Honestly, they should just make a movie already. You never see Chiefs face so they could get Steve Downes to voice over and Cortana is just a hologram so they can use whoever voices her. And the Warthog. Is that an actual working driving vehicle? It doesn't have any rear view mirrors. How is someone supposed to change lanes in that thing?

The episodes so far have been amazing, but I don't think John would have just said "I'm master chief lulz hai guise" (exaggerating of course, but still) and I love the way that laskey is having it told from his perspective. I love his story thus far, it's quite interesting to say the least. I really felt for him when it came to his brother.. When that dick (Vickers, I believe?) Said something along the lines of "It must hurt your mom to know her real son is never coming home" I would've fucking killed him.

Truly great episodes and I can't wait for the finale, honestly.

It's possible that John would have in fact referred to himself as "Master Chief" to the cadets. I'm sure it was just something for the fans... But, look at this way...

Covenant are attacking. 99.99% of the planet is dead already. His objective is to secure those cadets, and allow them to escape. They've never heard of the SPARTAN Program. He needs them on his side ASAP. He needs to get them to safety. His fellow Spartans call him Master Chief, or "The Chief" quite often. Someone like John would tell them to call him Master Chief because that's what his fellow Spartans call him. And that's all he knows. He doesn't know to say "Hi, my name is John. Nice to meet you" to be friendly. It's simply "Call me Master Chief" and then proceeding immediately. I think that if this was real, it would be to make things quick, and for John, to make it feel like he's being friendly and welcoming. Even though he's still thought of as a giant scary robot with a gun.

I know it's for the fans, but what he said is still plausible.

Technically he probably should have said he is Master Chief Pretty Officer Spartan 117. Then they could have called him Master Chief and it would have been cannon accurate and helped the fans.

I mean are they accepted as canon by Bungie? I have a friend who says that they aren't and the internet says that they are. Are there any instances where Bungie or 343 has themselves said that the books are canon?

Also, 2 of the posts in page 7 of this thread are absolute wins. I'll find them later and post quotes.

I don't know for sure what Bungie's opinions on the books were, but I know 343 has made a strong effort for the books to truly add to the story of the games (and vice-versa), and you can easily see it when you read the Forerunner trilogy and the Kilo-Five trilogy.

I really hate the fact that the girl had to die, but that's a good think, it really ties a good knot on the story. The Spartans look just a bit too toyish but I ca get used to it.

I kinda don't like how when Chief is using his Comms, it's open for everyone to hear (at least that's the way they made it sound). You'd think he'd want it to be private/it WOULD be private. Just my 2 cents.

Also, that soundtrack made me shiver.

EDIT: DAT ENDING. DAMN. NO OTHER Game has this kind of pre-release stuff! I don't care how Halo 4 turns out, they did right with all this stuff they're doing pre-release. A new Era has definitely been unfolded with these kind of things. Can't wait for this game!

That's what I think too. Showing his face is probably the worst thing they could do in the video games. THey showed him as a child in the comic version of Fall of Reach. Seeing his actual face in game though would suck.

COMs were probably opened to the Cadets due to Chief wanting to reassure them or because they were standard UNSC COMS they could have picked up in their helmets. Don't forget, there were Marines at the DZ as well, so they must've been included in the COM Chatter.

Spartan-IV Com systems are private only when between armors.

Also, as much as I loved seeing Blue Team, they messed up. By this date, all Spartans should be wearing the same Mark IV Armor. None of the custom stuff as MJOLNIR hadn't been fully developed yet.

Mark IV did have customizations to it.

http://www.halopedia.org/Mark_IV

And may I also say we've never seen Kelly's helmet before, and Fred looks like he dawned the Mk. V that Noble Team was given.

Let's also say this, the wiki isn't 100% accurate, and I know for a fact I haven't read very much about the different variants of MJOLNIR in the novels.

None of that can be accurate at all. Mark IV had no energy shielding and all of these are variants from either the Non-Canon Halo 3 multiplayer or the Halo Reach multiplayer, which makes no sense. They would have to be an upgraded component in Halo Reach to adjust for the use of energy shielding, which means they couldn't be used with a Mark IV suit.

Spartan III's aren't capable of utilizing a MJOLNIR variant like the IV as it was specifically designed for Spartan-II physicality which is superior to that of a Gen III Spartan. Originally, S-III were equipped with an SPI armor and were "suicide" squads until Halo Reach blew the proper Canon all astray.

If the Halo Reach game is to be treated as Canon regarding the original universe, then the Mark IV suits they wear would be specifically designed for shield usage, making them a more advanced version of the Spartan-II Mark IV suit. Meaning, UNSC Army had the ability to have shielding faster than Halsey's Navy Spartans. That is so blatantly wrong it defies logic.

Noble was given a different model of Mark V not Mark IV. They were given MJOLNIR because they were a unique squad, they survived their suicide missions. The Mk. IV article says nothing about having a shielding system at all.

I know a lot about the S-III's they're my favorite Spartans. I was actually looking forward to using SPI in Reach before they announced Noble wouldn't be using SPI.

And the armor variants in Halo 3 and Halo: Reach are canon variants of MJOLNIR.

Not even close, Eagle's facts are contradicting (As per normal)

All of the "Mark IV" variants you supplied in your first post are either Nobel Mark V variants or Mark VI Variants from Halo 3, non of which would work with a non-shielded Mark IV suit. You rely on Halopedia but, like all Wiki's, it can be edited by anyone, and can be inaccurate, as shown here. Any component Mark IV and older will not be compatible with a Mark V and newer suit due to shielded and changes in power supply/electronics, especially that pertaining to supporting a smart AI in armor.

Before you try and lecture me on things kid, get your facts straight.

My facts aren't contradicting. At all.

Go read the article, not just click the images.

Under Armor Variants, read the Advanced Hardware Program. Some of the variants weren't created until later. Even then however the variants can look how they do and still be compatible with the Mk. IV. The internal components and hardware are the things that wouldn't be compatible. Not the cosmetics.

Besides as I said before, we haven't seen Kelly's helmet. Ever in any game. As for Fred's it looks like the Mk. V[B]. Chief's looks like standard Mk. IV. Kelly's armor however looks new.

Assuming you were right, which you're not, it still is not possible. Corbulo was attached in 2526, the earliest possible armor configuration would be EOD as according to your very incorrect information. Rather, 343 simply made live action armor to look similar to that of Nobel, in order to please fans that MC is "better" when that also is not true.

It states in Fall Of Reach that in August of 2525 every Spartan-II was given a Mark IV MJOLNIR suit, all identical. John was the first to be outfitted as he was the "lucky" one.

Seriously kid, you're shits all out of whack. The Wiki page has been edited by some idiot who didn't have his shit in order. It's very simple, the Canon never touches on customizing Mark IV suits until the visual mistake in FuD which as I said above, it probably to make MC look like the "best" and add on to his prestige. Your trying to use incorrect data to argue and incorrect fact.

This article is the most canon accurate on the Mark IV armor system and cites all Canon references to wear any customizations would have taken place. Incorrectly, it adds the EVA / Grenadier helmet to the Mark IV armor when both are Mark V components.

Oh I agree on the date on which they received the armor, as well as when Chief, Fred, and Kelly went to Circinius IV.

What I'm saying that, we don't have much information at all on actual variants for Mk. IV. Just because their are no current non-canon sources doesn't rule them out. After all Spartan's were the best of the best. They would of had to be given customizations at some point to fit their style of combat.

I find it laughable though, that you're getting all bent of shape on this. Saying my facts "as per normal" are wrong, and pressing that absolutely nothing I'm currently saying it correct.

As for the "visual mistake" of FuD, I don't think it's a visual mistake. I think that Mk. IV had customizations before we think they do. I mean c'mon out of all of the MJOLNIR armor versions the Spartans have worn. Mk. IV was the longest.

Case in point 343 needs to make themselves a wiki or something similar.

Then you've just proven you point as wrong. If something isn't stated in canon fact, it can't be considered fact like you have said. It can be speculated that there are variants, but until it is stated in fact though canon it is just that, speculation. Therefore, based on facts, there are no variants of Mark IV besides what Chief and the others were outfitted with originally.

Opinions on if there is or not are just that, opinions. We're dealing with facts though. I'm not bent out of shape, I just get bored with people who don't deal with the correct information and don't sugar coat telling them they're wrong. Don't like that? Oh well, that's how I am.

There have been a lot of "mistakes" to appease the "Hollywood" aspect of it. It may not be 100% canon accurate or "realistic" in a sense, but it's about 99% there, which is WAY higher than any other Live Action stuff we've seen so far. Now all we need is a full feature movie...
