Hey Mythonian, do you happen to know the velocity of a helium-neon laser beam in air? Because I know the velocity in an unknown liquid, and the wavelength in air, and I need to find the wavelength in the unknown liquid.

I think your idea would be fine. You have full creative freedom (as long as it doesn't violate the Accords), so go for it.
