On January 9th, 2013. Seattle Hedge Fund Manager Chris Hansen reached an agreement with the Maloof Family to purchase the NBA's Sacramento Kings and filed for relocation to move the team to Seattle to become the SuperSonics.
Everyone said it was a done deal. Sacramento didn't stand a chance. The Sonics were back! But Sacramento Mayor and former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson didn't give up. Neither did the Kings fans in Sacramento and worldwide.
KJ got to work right away and got a buyer group that would buy the team and keep it in Sacramento. KJ also got to work on an new downtown arena plan for Sacramento and passed it through the Sacramento City Council.
He did all of that in 3 1/2 months.
On Monday, April 29th, the NBA relocation committee recommended to the NBA that Chris Hansen's relocation request be denied and the team stay in Sacramento. The NBA will more than likely follow the recommendation. This has never happened in the history of professional sports. Typically when teams file for relocation, they move and the league approves it no problem. But not the Kings. Not Sacramento.
Sacramento Kings Forever.
