You're likely not going to get as many successful recruits from mass messages as you would by talking to people on your team. That way you can also assess if they have a mic or not, their maturity, their ability and you can get on a more personal level with them. If I had been approached this way as opposed to an obvious mass message I would give it more consideration. There are tons of people that send out mass messages for their various clans, communities, websites etc. It gives off the wrong impression.

I agree with you for the most part but that is how I was recruited. Mass Messages can be personal. Zeta recruited me off of The Halo Council Forums and he sent me the typical "Join X Clan" but he started out with "Saw your post on THC." People like being noticed. If a random teammate does well in a game with you then you could send a message such as "Good job last game would you like to join or check out our Halo Community called FC?." Obviously more complex than that.

True, I meant the more impersonal "ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A KEWL COMMUNITY?!" kinda messages. Sending messages from your computer or plugging a USB keyboard into your xbox can allow you to send personalized messages without taking the time it would to enter them with your controller. The shotgun method of spamming as many people as possible just seems kinda ehhh to me.

    Re: Universal Recruiting Template

*This guide is created by SpartanBH in it's entirety and all credit goes to him. Also, keep in mind this was originally created for officers, but can definitely be used by anyone

    For Matchmaking:

STEP 1: It's not always about finding the BEST players, it's more so about finding the RIGHT ones.
First off, if you plan on recruiting, don't join Infinity Slayer/BTB Slayer games with full parties of 4 or 8, as that defeats the possibility of being paired up with new people. And it's very rare once a game is over that the other team decides to stay and chat. Always leave at least 1-4 extra spots for other "random" players to join. Obviously you are going to hope that these players have mics and are in game chat...if they are muted or in party chat in the lobby, then chances are they have no interest whatsoever in joining a new community. If you see someone with a mic on your team, make sure you and whoever else is in your party are friendly and are having a good time. No one wants to join up with a bunch of negative nancies. The first thing we want these potential recruits to feel is warm and welcome, whether it's just for that game or for the long run. Once the game is started, here are the things you want to look out for that could be the signs of potentially GOOD soldiers:

--Active Mic: They are making call outs, coordinating attacks, have a serious but positive approach to their gaming, and are complimenting fellow soldiers on good kills and/or maneuvers. They aren't making a lot of background noise or are bitching constantly. Cool, calm, and collected through nearly the entire game. Lastly, you can tell by voice these people are mature and older than 15.

    --Tactical Effectiveness:
They are strategically sound; They are finding the flanks and weak points in the enemy team's approach and are exploiting it. They utilize effective vehicle control (if that's their type of gameplay). They tend to clear the perimeter before making a rush at an objective. They have an idea of weapon spawn times (they know the Overshield or rockets will spawn again at the 5:42 mark). They utilize armor abilities to help the team, such as wheelman for vehicles, regeneration fields for being close to objectives, hologram psyche-outs, etc. They are making game-changing plays to help the team. They are successfully being a distraction thus letting the rest of the team move up on objectives. They are communicating not only with their friends, but the entire team and are joining in on friendly conversations during the game.

--Raw Skill: In terms of raw HALO skill, how are they? Remember, we aren't looking for THE BEST slayers in the game if they aren't team players, but if they are both then that is definitely a plus. Keep an eye out for the players who are popping headshots left and right, especially with sniper rifles. We're all pretty experienced in HALO, so we can tell who has better raw skill than others pretty quickly. At the end of the game, take a look at the K/D ratio, and also definitely look at assists. Having someone who has a lot of career assists is just as useful as a guy who has a lot of kills.

    --More than one?
Wouldn't we love to get more than one recruit from one game? Try to hit the goldmines when you hit up BTB playlists and find parties for 4 all with active mics. Those are the small groups that can win battles and even wars. Winning wars is all about the chemistry within the squads, and if you find a group of 3-4 people who work well together, why not go for them?

    --Girl Gamers?
By no means am I trying to sound weird or creepy, but lets face it, girl gamers get A LOT of attention. There are MANY guys on XBL who once they hear a girl's voice, they immediately send her a FR and try to make her their best friend. We should utilize this to our advantage, if we can find some respectable, drama-free women who enjoy playing HALO, then lets get them in our army and use them as a "tool" for recruitment. I've dreamed of an all-girl recruitment squad because (unfortunately) it would actually work XD. Keep an eye out for these gamers! But be respectful and not obsessive, or else you'll not only make them feel weird, but you'll make yourself look like creep.

--Actual military: I've always been a very big fan of recruiting actual military members, since right off the bat they are respectful and they tend to have better strategy than regular gamers. Keep an eye out for people who have service tags (or gamertags with these tags) like USMC, NAVY, ARMY, USAF, etc. Not only we will become more mature, but possibly a lot more strategic as well.

Here are some signs of potentially BAD soldiers that you will want to normally avoid (but not all the time):

--Annoying mic: We all hate squeakers. IF they are a squeaker, that's an immediate NO. We don't want someone who complains constantly and acts like they are the greatest thing on earth, so every time they die in HALO they bitch like a child. Are they trash talking badly? We all know where to draw the line in terms of trash talking...sure, we all say "oh fuck you ____" after getting killed, but that should be about the limit. Once you get to someone screaming "FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING FAGGOT COCKSUCKER N-WORD ALDKJFALDKFJA", we gotta pass on them. Are they overly perverted or racist, if so they should be a pass. Overall, if they just seem like an unpleasant being, then don't even consider them.

    --Teabagging?
Don't even have to explain why this is an immediate no-no.

--Tactical Ineffectiveness: Are they playing the game like Call of Duty, where they just constantly rush in and die with absolutely no sense of care or strategy? Are they jumping in a warthog or mongoose and just driving around stupidly without picking up gunners? Are they the kind of person that sees someone sneaking up to a base, and they decide to run next to him and shoot, thus causing attention over to the sneaker? Obviously betraying and running around like an idiot is another thing to consider.

    STEP 2: Lure them in.

After the game is over and you believe that the person/people you just played with could be potential good recruits, you should immediately yet politely ask to team up and play a few more games of matchmaking with them. Don't throw the name of FC out yet right after the game. We want each new recruit to feel like they have a personal invitation and that they special kind of person that we're looking for. I tend to frown upon spamming recent players lists because it seems to impersonal and annoying. If we treat someone with respect and give them our full attention, they are going to be much more interested in joining a COMMUNITY FULL OF THOSE KIND OF PEOPLE. If they accept the invitation to team up, then fantastic! (If they don't, do not fret about it, rejection happens and just move on to the next game.) Start playing a few games with the potentials and see if they still behave in the same manner as you saw in the first game you played with them, if they do then that's obviously a good sign. One tactic I normally like to do if I'm in a party with FC friends is bring up a few topics from the wars to make the potentials became curious and intrigued. An example would be like "So how about those battles on Ragnarok last night eh? Can't believe BLUE pulled through, those were some great games. What a comeback we had in that one where you threw that hardlight shield up to protect me as I armed the extraction point." After playing about 3-4 more games with the potential recruits, that is when you should politely ask them if they would be interested in joining a fun, organized war-simulator community. At the very least, they should be somewhat intrigued about what we are, and this is where you have to bring your sales pitch. This is what you NEED to cover when you are talking about FC:

-We are a war simulation community centered in the HALO universe and video games.
-There are two armies, REDD and BLUE and they fight over certain maps on Sundays at 6PM EST. Their objective is to fight their way through a war map and conquer the enemy army's capital.
-There are a variety of gametypes used, from Slayer to Oddball to CTF and Hill 30
-Our community is over 7 years old (since the days of Halo 2) and has approximately 250 members and is growing each day
-They will start out as a private and will be placed in a squad, but they will have the ability to rank up and possibly lead a squad, company, battalion, or even army in the future
-They can bring friends and will be able to play together.
-They must go through a mandatory boot camp (but stress that while the boot camp is very serious, it is very informative and entertaining).
-It is a guarantee that they will make friends in our community.
-We have a fancy forum board where the entire community can socialize and post updates
-We have podcasts, a Forge department, a web department, graphics department, and media department that we encourage people to join and help out. Rewards can be received for doing some cool stuff.
-We host tournaments and community game nights, sometimes we even have prizes in the form of Microsoft Points or T-shirts, and we also encourage members to create their own fun tournaments or game nights.
-They are NOT required to change their armor color, emblem, or gamertag to join
-We have some semi-pro players who are always open to helping new players out with training and scrimmages. People who join FC are guaranteed to get better at the game, whether it be through skill or strategy

One thing we ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NEED TO STRESS in FC is that these new potential soldiers NEED us as much as we need them. We can't just be a side-show HALO event anymore. We have to be THE PLACE people go towards to really enjoy the game of HALO to new levels. We're not just a Sunday night thing, we need to get these new potentials engulfed in the FC life. We need to stress how fun and how worthwhile FC will be to their lives.

    STEP 3: KEEP THEM.

One of my biggest pet peeves is that once a recruit is done with a boot camp, they sometimes either don't get placed in a squad or no one from their designated squad contacts them. We need to be on top of our game this war with keeping recruits and making sure they don't lose any interest whatsoever. Once they are done with a boot camp, get them hooked up with at least 1-2 people from their designated squad so that they can start playing with them. Get them integrated into their squad, the army, the system, and the entire community. Fill them in on what they should expect from the squad, who the other members are, and when scrimmages are. We need to make these new recruits feel that they are welcomed into the army and that they just aren't some random newbie. Also, encourage them to recruit their friends. The more chemistry in fireteams and squads, the better! We also need to let them know that they will be rewarded with more power and responsibilities if they stay active, and that the community only gets better as your rank increases. Also, inform them that if they recruit, they will be ranked up much faster as well, and that if they recruit enough friends that they can even form their own squad.

Another MAJOR, MAJOR, MAJOR thing we really need to start stressing much more to new recruits is that they should be as active as possible on our forum boards. They should log in at least once a day and communicate not only with their own army members, but the entire community. Lets get some more friendships between REDD and BLUE soldiers going, because it'll make our army look much more successful if our members are initiating communication and reaching out a friendly hand to play with REDD members. During the boot camps, don't just mention our forum boards, really encourage the new soldiers to be as active as possible on them. Let them know that more activity means more awards, more respect, and possibly the chance to play in more battles. Also, it goes without even saying, but at the very least make sure they make a post in the INTRODUCTIONS section.

STEP 4: You're the officers, lets be the best damn officers FC has ever seen.

The officers are the true backbone of FC. It is up to you guys to really keep your soldiers motivated, and nothing gets soldiers more motivated than winning and chemistry. While there will always be streaks of loses, it is up to you guys to keep the lower soldiers motivated. The more people we have, the more motivated we will be, regardless of winning or losing But NEVER stop recruiting and make sure the lower soldiers are recruiting just as much as the officers are. It is up to you guys to be the mentors, not just the bosses. Lets make this the most exciting war that Forerunner Conflict has ever been graced with! Good luck guys! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to post or PM me =).

    Re: Universal Recruiting Template

Something needs to change with recruiting either way, we need a way of getting more people through the door and into the wars. I'm pretty fed up of playing the same squads week in week out.

Either that, or we could have a war with a draft type. Each Field Marshal goes through everyone willing to play in battles and selects them for their army. Even numbers and even armies. Each FM has the power to create squads however they like, which could also be requested by members. A whole re-jig that hey get to choose near enough every rank that isn't Higher and lower Enlisted.

It would make an even skill for each side and even numbers. After the draft recruiting is open. So numbers can fluctuate and it still has an incentive to recruit people. To gain the upper hand.

Something like this to spice up the wars, I think would be good. And also memorable and maybe revolutionary

You are still a moron but not a godless fucking one
