It's a general idea promoted to reward teamwork. In many instances, getting a kill is harder than getting an assist anyway. Assist counts are usually lower than kill counts as well.

I'm going to take a guess that myth made assists worth more to promote the philosophy of good teamwork, not because anyone specifically gets a hard on for their assists count.

I'm sure it's 3... My main beef with the system was that the time it took for that damage you dealt to no longer be valid for an assist medal was shorter than the time it took for someone's shields to recharge from that damage.

40% of the damage, so it's only 2 shots if he got 5-shotted.
