Yeah, so I just figured out something extremely ironic with the Prometheans. The name likely originates from the Greek god Prometheus. According to the Greeks, Prometheus was responsible for creating mankind.

The Prometheans (ForeRunner/Didact's army) were responsible for nearly wiping out all of ancient humanity (See Human-ForeRunner War). 343, you sneaky bastards.

He didn't clone new ones. The ones we fight are ancient humans and some Forerunner minds composed into AI. That is what the Composer does. In Spartan Ops, due to taking place after the Composer attack on New Phoenix, we fight Knights who are modern humans.
