And Tree did so love the world that he created the Ogres to protect the tree and all its creation. For eons, the Tree, its creations and their Guardians lived in peace.
But Shrek, the leader amongst them, grew to hate the Tree. Atop the highest peak of the tallest rock in the Forest he asked his brethren, "How are we to be faithful to a tree that cannot protect itself? For if we are the Guardians, it would mean that the Tree is weak."
"Nay,' the Tree said unto him, "For all that happens is my will. Your guardianship is an honor; you stand as witness to the Love I bear for all my Seeds."
But Shrek was not moved. "Down with the tree! For it is Weak, and We are Strong!"
The Tree was hurt, for his most beloved child had now turned against him. In growing Proud, Shrek had doomed his people. For the Tree had to exile the once mighty race, leaving them the Swamps of the Undergrowth as their home, where they would live out the rest of their days in Sludge and Pain.
In need of a new Symbol of the Rustling, the Tree created the Wooden Gargoyles, Sentinels of his Roots. And there was peace throughout the land.
So it was. So it is. So it will be.
Tree is Love. Tree is Life.
